OMMMMGGGG!!!!!!!!!!

my father just called me (he works at radio station) and told me he has accreditations for RTF4!!!

I was like wtf? I saw the tour dates and they are not coming (to Croatia)... then I saw on internet that they have been comfirmed for first avantgarde festival in Rovinj (near Trieste, but in Croatia) on July 17th!

I cant be more happy! and also we got the tickets for Dr. Lonnie Liston Smith  :D

oh dear! So I will see them after all!

So, do you think they will be tailoring their set these shows? Perhaps concentrating on Frank's more jazzy instrumental stuff? Somehow I don't see a lot of songs about groupie sex and eating yellow snow going over big with the RtF crowd, but RDNZL will drop jaws.

I'm down for the Denver show. I was considering Telluride as well, but frankly, I'm just too old and grouchy for all day festival scenes. Besides, I've got tickets to see Santana the next day.

I saw Santana a few years ago and he is excellent as well as his band, his playing is similiar to FZ but much more predictable... :smoke:

if Ponty is willing to jam with ZPZ it could make for an awesome set list.

i'd shit myself if they busted out with 50/50.

Much, much, much more predictable. Zappa didn't play the same solo in every song.

Santana generally switches bands between rock and jazz, and quite often, I saw him with John Mclaughlin on the devotion tour and believe me he played solo's that were different on each tune as well as his famous rock licks. Check out an old cd of his Borboletta, his catalogue is huge.

That's good to know, I will check that cd out. Everything I hear has that same triplet phrase followed by the bend. Mclaughlin blows him away on the Welcome cd. I'm thinking of the track Flame Sky.

Interesting ,I don't gravitate to the competition aspect of music.

So it's just competition in politics for you?

It's hard not to make comparisons when 2 guitarists are both wailing at full strength in the same song.

It looks like we are not breaking out the Time Machine for this round since I have convinced Mrs.Plook to go to the show in Davis (this will be her first ZPZ, she saw FZ in 1980 at the LA Sports Arena). I think this show will work for her due to the RTF jazz and the assumption that ZPZ will lean that way too. I know KU and Kapt.Kiirk will be there and I can only hope Cletus makes the extra distance to come also, of course the boyz should show up too (Happy, Nic, Ed). Anyone else targeting this show should let us know and we can hook-up...

So why would so many " better guitar players" want to play with carlos.

I think the reason better guitarists want to play with Carlos is for the exposure to a bigger audience. Carlos had the good fortune of playing the overrated Woodstock Festival and like many others who played Woodstock, he became an overnight superstar. Mclaughlin sold a lot less units than Santana. Playing with Santana exposed him to the huge pop/counter culture audience that existed in 1973. I think it was a business move.

I am down for the Cincy show - tickets go on sale Saturday, May 21st, which should certainly signal the beginning of the end of the world.

Yeah, no Al D is definitely a miss, but everything else about it is great. This will be my first time with ZPZ live, but I saw Dweezil's daddy in '73, '75 and '77, and just missed him in '82.

Will ZPZ play an abbreviated set as the opening act? No Frank on the big screen? Anyone know?

NOT, I saw Carlos with Joe Zawinul, and Wayne Shorter, venue held 200 people, Joe made a special point of the talent of Carlos, called him Mr. Melody, and in fact the tour was to showcase Santana's talent to more jazz fans.
