I was considering using the  smiley on this one, Fritz... What can I say about a rock concert I went with my Mother? :P

that's almost all, I've forgotten a few and forgotten many-an-opening act. I don't see as many live shows these days, just Rush and ZPZ when they come through town.

My concert going started in 1981 (Rush), so any of those older acts like Tull/Floyd were seen in the eighties. Don't listen to as much metal as I used to so most of those metal bands were seen in the late eighties and early nineties.

I got heavily into Zappa's music around 85-86 and the only chance I would of had to see him live would of been Buffalo on the '88 tour. Unfortunately I found out about the show about a month after it took place. I guess the stupid rock station I listened to didn't deem it worthy to mention.

I wouldn't know were to begin, I can say that my bedroom door at my moms house when I was like 18 was almost completely covered with concert ticket stubs (and they were not very big back then). I also would think that bands that became popular that played clubs in LA would count (the Starwood in Hollywood would have 3 acts every Friday and Saturday) some bands in the 70's & 80's that become big names were commenly playing the Hollywood club scene, examples the Bangles, Devo, English Beat, Talking Heads, and many more that I would have to think about...I will try to come up with something.

OK here is the best I can do but I know I forgotten so many especially punk/new wave bands that I should remember...but what the f#ck I'm getting old, I almost forgot that Cheech & Chong was my first gig at a college when I was in 8th grade...they had a band that opened for them that rocked...I was hooked...I should try to find out who that was.

I've always stayed away from the "pop music" side of things. Somehow most of it did not interest me that much, and when I got to California in 1972, it was such a fad that seeing anyone that was hip and cool, just was not gonna happen ... I didn't like the moronic mentality that you had to see this or that to be cool, and never did it!

The bad part of being in the Portland/Vancouver area is that this area has no idea what the word "arts" mean, and they think that Portland's 3rd rate Symphony is what the "arts" are all about. Considering what they play, which has been played in 10k places before out there, I would say that they are a 5th rate Symphony, and that most of the concerts that you get in Portland are the worst and the cheapest. And this town is notorious for bad places and lousy systems and what I have seen them do to a couple of bands, including Ozric Tentacles is sad, and if it were me ... I would not play in those places ... period! Basically no one in Portland knows keyboards and you can find them in the mix when listening to a band ... but you will get the drums and the guitar if Dream Theater comes to town, and the rest of the band? ... non-existant!

It's the shit-iest mixing and work I have ever seen. I've seen smaller places with better music and mixing ... but here ... they are too stupid to know music and learn it and appreciate it. And both the Rose Garden and the place next door are also in that mode ... bad sound and mixes! Only Paul Allen can get the good recordings off the board from the Rose Garden ... the rest of us? ... screw it! Take the money and get out of town!

Tangerine Dream sounded good at the Arlene Schintzler Hall, but they brought their own and setup their own, and no one is going to touch their material ... and that is the reason why they will never play here again!

The Doors (without Morrison) (1972 Carnegie Hall)
The Jimi Hendrix Experience (1968)
Ten Years After (1970)
Mott The Hoople (1st US gig!!)
Frank Zappa and The Mothers (1970)
Frank Zappa (1988)
Eric Clapton (1974)
The Rolling Stones (2 nights in 1975 & Voodoo Lounge Tour-Giants Stadium)
Sha Na Na (Fillmore East 1970 & Carnegie Hall 1971 -with guest Keith Moon)
Santana (1977...with special guest Al Dimeola)
Poco ( FDU-free concert 1973)
Twisted Sister (when they were a "bar" band. Walked out, after 1 song.)

Johnny Winter ( 1979 & 1981 or so)
John Sebastian (when he still could sing-1979)
Woodstock Reunion 1979
CSN (1990's & 2000)
Stephen Stills (1998-1999)
Neil Young (2000 Friends & Relatives Tour)
CPR (1998)
U2 (2001)
probably more....but this is all I can remember.

Remembered some more:
The Allman Brothers Band (1972 & 1973)
Albert Collins (Stanhope NJ...um forget the date)

And the worst concert I ever went to:
Hank Williams, Jr. (Capitol Theater, Passaic NJ.)
He was drunk out of his mind. Half the audience left.
The only highlight of the show was meeting a girl I
knew from high school. We exchanged numbers.

How did I forget this show???
Peter Green (1971-Capitol Theater, Passaic NJ)
Funny thing is, he wasn't even scheduled to appear.
I had tix to see QMS. The promoter comes out, as
we're waiting on line to go in and says" I'm sorry
people...but Quicksilver have just broken up in
the dressing room. They won't be playing....but.
We have another act....Peter Green. If you want
a refund, we'll honor it."
I was psyched! Peter Green's band was:
Carl Palmer on drums, Alex D. on bass, and
the violinist guy from ELO!
He performed "The End of the Game" album live
and did two Fleetwood Mac tunes "Black Magic
Woman" and "A Fool No More."
I was totally blown away. He was excellent!
The next surprise band was Soft Machine.
I left after one tune. They were putting me to sleep.

Wow. I bet this was loud, weird, and fun. I wished I could have seen the Birthday Party live as well.

Most noteworthy Aussie acts I've seen;
The Birthday Party (Nick Cave)

Wow. I bet this was loud, weird, and fun. I wished I could have seen the Birthday Party live as well.

Yeah, that was an unexpected surprise..I only went ços my brother was a fan
It was loud and mock evil heavy...sorta makes up for never seeing Crimso live..heh
Totally different music but a similar effect I'll bet

Albert Collins (Stanhope NJ...um forget the date)

i saw willie dixon and the chicago allstars at the stanhope house with blues harp MONSTER "sugar blue" way back when. also saw albert collins, jb hutto, i was the biggest blues freak when i was a kid. i think it was a good place to get excited about music and get a good fundemental base.then i got to where i couldn't listen to another 1-4-5 progression or i'd get nauseous. happy to say i can enjoy the blues again.

other concerts of note-art ensemble of chicago, roswell rudd, joe chambers, elvin jones, mcoy tyner, ron carter, hobolema (allan holdsworth), stevie wonder hyde park 2010, kila, solas, david lindley, charming hostess, black sea surf, edessa, petar ralchev, ballet africans (guinea), coulibaly family (burkina faso)
