Several CP3 pieces dated back to the mid 80s and went through many revisions before the release.

Weil nach der Marketing-Ausrichtung des ZFT so wenig Leute wie möglich das kaufen sollen.

It's probably based on the principle that there are more ugly motherfuckers out here than beautiful people - and the assumption that us ugly people want ugly thangs... I ordered it anyway, and my four year old son will even love the cover 8)

There's some kind of association with a painter called John Alexander, because he has a painting called Feeding the Monkey at "Ma Maison" (1985) which Sotheby's sold in 1996.

Alexander's stuff is less syrypy

Could be a drip mat at Wendy's.

Cool link, DC! Ha, I like that one: http://www.johnalexanderstudio.com/wp-c ... hhead1.jpg
--- “Intended as a vinyl release” and three cuts - - A maxi single for the SDI-era teenage listener?

Anyway, this should be the "I have no band at the time, anything that's gonna be released next will be done on the Synclavier" album he referred to as a standard response in interviews during the late 80s, which, of course later morphed into CPIII...Yow! And this is exactly the kind of vault stuff I have waited all these years and through the Joe's Series for. Can't Imagine this one disappoints, really -- If it weren't for the album cover...well, everybody's got something to hide except me and my monkey, I suppose --

Oh yes. This will be a good one, I'm sure.

Could be that all the tracks are demo versions of CPIII-stuff but some changed titles.

Samba Funk is an unreleased piece. More about it here:

Wasn't a song entitled Buffalo Voice played at a symposium Frank had in the late 1980s possibly @ UCLA? If anyone knows was it the same as the Civ Phase 3 song? :D

Funny that this thread is only 2 pages long (as of September 6, 2011), I hope that's not indicative of how much (or little) they anticipate unreleased FZ Synclavier stuff in Zappa-Fan-Land.

Yes, pygmy s., 'Samba Funk' was premiered by Ascolta a few years back -- I'm not too enthusiastic about their performance, but I f*ck*ng l o v e d the new compositions (The other being 'Uncle Sam.')

Would it be realistic to assume an approximate playing time of 33 to 38 minutes for a 1980s Zappa vinyl record? Gee, that'd still mean an average track length of 11 to 13 minutes for the original album stuff -- Hey, and there's probably more sample-based material and less FM-type synthsized stuff than on JFH and FZMTMOP, love that!!

I must say that this is the release I'm the most excited about since Lumpy Money, maybe even more so. New music is new music. And synclavier is synclavier and I like it.

It must be the silly title that made me overlook this earlier... Great to see some new Synclavier music coming out!
HJ: Fortunately the instrument improved greatly even in Frank's lifetime: the Francesco sound is rather painful, but CP3 is very beautiful.

Can't say I'm very enthusiastic about the cover art. Although I love popsicles.

Legend has it that Gail decided on the colour system for the YCDTOSA covers, too. Bless her soul!

I'm assuming "off-camera" throwing the popsicles at the plate (like feces). Yeah, looks like a college student Photoshop project to me but ultimately, it's the audio that matters, I suppose.

Glad to see that jayp.

I listened to Buffalo Voice at work this morning and it is a contemplative piece.

Considering how synclavier work was 'built' these pieces could be any length at all as they may be constructed or deconstructed portions of each composition, or the composition itself in an earlier or different formation.

I really love JFH. I recognize that CPIII is quite an achievement, but I never warmed up to all its parts. Frank saw the need to capture the audio dynamics of his original vision of the 'people in the piano' and some of the dialogue is funny, some of the newer stuff recorded in the '90s would never have 'fit' into the Lumpy Gravy style, even if Frank could have done it in 1967.

All that rambling really can be best summed up as I am partial to focused synclavier pieces, but less enamored of the longer, thematically-tied work.
