Well, thanks for giving us an update…it looks like the Mayans concluded that we ALL conclude on what would have been Frank’s 72nd birthday.
Just in case they are right, Gail…could you sent it out a wee bit prior just so weez can listen to it WHILE weez get ionized?

Possibly. But consider that the Mayans got ionized waaaay in advance of their prediction – or should I say predilection – whilst I am merely working on lionizing the preeminent recording by FZ of Varese’s works – with a little Ionisations on the side
:) That's nice, and maybe there's even time for cute lil' Dance Me This, meanwhile...

Very good :) and as I said - a totally idiosyncratic and metaphorical grasp on reality... But something's brewing, for sure 8)

People who believe in new age theories may not like Gail's metaphorical answer. But for once, it made me laugh.

Great use of ionized by both parties, cool that GZ picked up on it. Someone on another topic wondered why GZ does not answer stupid questions. This was too tempting for her not to answer. The Eons are closing.

Dear Gail,
I’ve awaited this to be released for so long. Any status or hope that you can give?
Thank you,

David,
I am hoping to release it at the end of the Mayan Calendar. That seems appropriate. Thank you for your question.

The suspense of listening to Zappa's version of Poème électronique is what really makes me want this to come out NOW.

From what I can gather, Zappa only conducted ensemble pieces. I don't think he redid any of the electronic stuff.

Why would he re-do Poème Électronique? Varèse created that sound himself in an Eindhoven lab.

To my knowledge the majority of the pieces were conducted by Péter Eötvös. Frank mainly "produced" the thing.

How the Poème Électronique can be a "new performance" is questionable in this context.

Agreed. But, Varèse did "score" his electronic pieces and was to some degree frustrated by what was available at the time to get his ideas realised, so it would be interesting to hear some alternative takes on his electronic stuff with modern equipment. Although, I'm not that bothered, I'm happy to continue listening to his originals.

This wd be great if it comes with the DVD documenting the whole thing. Without it, it is very low on my list. I have a ton of Varese, heard it live numerous times and I just don't think it's gonna be all that different from what is out there. I like Eotvos, too.

To me it would be very interesting to hear the interpretation of Varèse's music by a composer who had an intimate relation with it for most of his life.

I certainly think that FZ would be able to add new insight to the music of Varèse.

I cherish my Sony VHS master from German Tee Vee. It has one hole more than blue ray.

Sure, I'd certainly order the moment it came out but remember Eotvos is the conductor (Frank on maybe one?). I guess FZ made suggestions and told them how to mic it, etc. But is it really more about FZ coming full circle, which is heart-warming, but less than about the music? Will need the doc to know what really took place. Eotvos is no slouch and wd be cool to see them studying the score(s) together, Frank saying: Empahasize fill in the bank, etc etc. Without the doc we will never really know.

I don't think classical conductors like Peter Eötvös are usually involved in the placement of microphones etc. They are hired by record companies, which have their own recording standards, engineers etc.

"The Rage And The Fury" would be a Zappa production! He didn't conduct his own orchestral pieces either, even when he was fit (Michael Zearott conducted The Abnuceals Emuukha Electric Orchestra for the Royce Hall recordings in 1975, used for Orchestral Favorites, Greggery Peccary, Rollo, Hermitage, Easy Meat (orchestral bit) …).

Good points (tho ya mis-read, I said Frank probably played a big role in mic, hopefully the mix, etc.). Eotvos AND the musicians probably know the music to the core of their being too, so like ahsaid....

I have to be honnest when i was around 19 years old i didnt liked very much Varèse music, it took me many years to undertstand better. last month i was alone in the house and decided for the 1st time to follow Frank advice and put it very loud ( i hate loud music) but i was surprised to hear sound i never heard, i said to myself wow varèse is a genius also. Now i am more excited for the rage & the fury

Call me cynical, but the longer this thing is unreleased, the more the demand and the more the value.

I'd pay for it though...so the tactic is working!
