Empire of the sun is one of my favorite films......Id take that over Boogie Nights..Robert Altman is great but too hit and miss IMO to match the consistency of Speilberg...the Clint Eastwood western movies are some of my all time favorites. I think Clint's best western he directed though, Josey Wales

I agree with you about consistency. Altman definitely has some clunkers.
Josey Wales is my favorite Eastwood directed film.

Not the best 10 (well Meirelles, yes), but very very good and relatively unknown ones...

I'm a very big fan of Frank's movies and I think we need to learn to watch them just like we had to learn to listen to his music.
200 Motels is full of moments of amazing beauty, like Lucy's Seduction Of A Bored Violonist, for example and Baby Snakes tells so much about who Frank was, you've got to watch it over and over again.
Who needs a story anyway?

The frank zappa of filmmaking! One of the best & sadly one of the most underrated directors of all time.

I may have to modify my list and include De Palma, but very Hitchcock influenced, almost to the point of ripoff. But 'Dressed to Kill' is so twisted and sick and genius, he definately deserves to be up there too.
Also he has enough balls to start a movie off like Carrie, with the shower scene (homage to Hitchcock)...Visually one of my favorite directors, and I actually love the Hitchcock references.
