You shouldn't pay big bucks for the Guitar vinyl album, because G&S music in Liverpool still have mint, unplayed copies of it at a very reasonable price. Get in touch with Dave, he's you're man 8)

I found a sealed copy about ten years ago, and I think I only paid around $20 for it.

5 years ago, I got a VG+ one around $15 on eBay.
At the time in Chicago, several used record stores near North Clark Street had sealed copies of YCDTOSA Sampler around $10.
That's just to confirm that if you are lucky enough, you might still find sealed copies of LPs from the late 80's at a very reasonable price.
Wait and see.

These are unplayed, if not sealed, which shouldn't be that essential if you're planning to play the records...

Anyone here interested in exchanging their M/NM copy of Return of the Son of Shut Up N Play Yer Guitar - Barking Pumpkin Records, BPR 1113, original mail order issue (with custom inner sleeve) for my VG+ CBS SUNPYG 3LP Box, complete with custom inner sleeves (albeit with split seams)? LP one is mint, but a bit floppy - plays great, though.

Send me a PM if you want the box!

Edit: The deal is off - I've traded the box. Still interested in BPR 1113, though...

As they say on eil.com: "FRANK ZAPPA Shut Up 'N Play Yer Guitar (Rare 1981 Japanese 20-track 3-LP vinyl set, housed in a wide-spined single pocket picture sleeve complete with the original inners, illustrated 6-page fold-out Japanese text insert and obi-strip - 60AP2268~70)."

http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=213207

I got this on Friday (11.11) - directly from a Japanese shop, not from eil.com - and the description above is accurate. I have listened to sides 3, 4 and 6 so far, and the sound is clear and bright in the treble and full in the bass, as you would expect from a mint Japanese LP.

Apart from the LPs themselves, the package as a whole is a beautiful thing - it's much slimmer than the US and European boxes, and has very good printing quality. The inner sleeves are in light cardboard, rather than the ordinary glossy paper on the other issues. The records are protected by typical Japanese plastics inside the cardboard inners.

The portrait on the inner sleeves is printed in reverse (!) - as a mirror image of the original. The typography on the back follows the first issue BPR mail order series/European box, but it's all printed in monochrome, with a sepia tint. Sepia letters on white background. The inner sleeve portrait is also sepia tinted monochrome.

Congrats for this beautiful purchase.

Could you please check if the release date is written somewhere on the obi strip.
This help may/may not be suitable for this purpose => http://www.minilps.net/mini-lp-replicas ... obi-strip/

Or maybe could you please just post a bigger scan of this obi?

That would be very kind of you.

Thank you

I can't find any release information on the obi, but the date 1982, 1, 21 is mentioned in the last page/last sentence of the booklet. I can't give you the context, though, as I don't read Japanese.

This is getting more and more exciting.
Can you please take a picture or scan this part and post it here?
Muchas gracias

I'm sorry - I'm not that technically advanced/inclined... The picture I posted is from eil.com - I put it up because the album looks exactly like mine, apart from a slightly dented bottom right corner on the cover of my copy.

BTW, the labels are marked as copyrighted and produced in 1981 (unlike the American box, which has 1982 on the labels). January 21 1982 is a possible release date all the same - January and February releases are often marked as last year's product, cf. Burnt Weeny Sandwich, which was released in early 1970, while it says 1969 on the cover and labels.

Oh, and this thing sounds freaking good - I love it
