Well, if you can get away with Fleetwood Mac, Ace of Base and Eric "Burden" as "perfect rock songs", I can certainly get away with Renaldo and the Loaf "Extracting the Re-Re"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVqdovF_bHQ
(I always love the bit where somebody says "That's fantastic!")

Wow. Someone else remembers this song! You're absolutely correct, a true classic.

It's a shame but most people don't even know that Fleetwood Mac existed (and were WAY better) before Buckingham & Nicks.

Lindsay Buckingham ruined Fleetwood Mac just like Michael McDonald ruined the Doobies.

You got that right. You remember the stuff McDonald did with Steely Dan? He was never an official member of the band but he played and sang on some of their albums like "Pretzel Logic", "Katy Lied", "The Royal Scam", and "Aja". He fit right in with Steely Dan but was totally wrong for a band like the Doobies.

I think Jefferson Airplane's "Good Shepherd" is one of the very best. I can hear sound from another dimension, every word is replete with meaning, the harmony is terrific. The experience is too wonderful to be sustained.
