The reason it sounds funny is because he changed the rhythm tracks, adding new drum and bass overdubs performed by Arthur Barrow and Chad Wackerman. Then I guess it's a combination of a couple things. One is my disagreeing
with more tinkering and remastering, or whatever, long after the fact,
as Lucas and Spielberg might do with their movies. I'm guessing the
censorship had to do with some sort of content other than differing sound
techniques. Somewhere, maybe in 'The Record Collector's Price Guide', I
read that LPs with the censored version of "Hot Poop" were rarer than
those with the uncensored version, and to be honest, I don't know which
one I have.
The other is, with music in general, I love the 60s/early-to-mid 70s sound,
and hate almost everything 80s, including the way the early ZZ Top that
I loved on vinyl sounds on CD, especially "La Grange". The percussion
sounds too techno-synth and cleaned up, or something.
