I always love the way German products combine a pleasant slogan ("The oldest brewery in Munich") with a strict warning (This beer crate is "non-saleable property", presumably of the brewery).

I've never noticed such a warning, Caputh. Where did you see it ?

From the same brewery. Augustiner Edelstoff. Great stuff.

So good in fact, that I appear to be incapable of spelling the word "tomatoes" as a result!

It says on the blue crate, on the picture which you posted: "unverkäufliches Eigentum"; sorry this a bit late

Baked haddock in a mustard cream sauce with spinach and rice (my littlest son had three helpings!)
@fritz, Pfand schon, aber ich frage mich immer, gibt es oder gab es etwa Kastendiebe und wie würden sie wohl aussehen?

The typical squatter's kit contains two beer crates. In the days squatting was legal, in order to get domestic peace protection, a squatter would need to have chair, table and bed in the house he occupied. One crate functions as table, the second as chair, and both together they form a highly uncomfortable English-type bed.
(Your chatting reminds me of an editorial by Sylvia Witteman, a very funny writer for De Volkskrant, where she related about her problems with the German language; among others she had a party and wanted 4 boxes (Du: dozen) of beer, so she phoned to order four Dosen, and later paid a fortune in delivery costs for four cans.)

Ate leek à la crème today. One of my favourites.

Just made and had Wiener Schnitzel, fried potatoes and peas - I ate the slightly burned one myself ( I like it that way), my wife and two kids got the "good" ones.
