Damn shame they had to use FZ's name in the headline...

FORT WORTH — A founding member of the band Little Feat who also played bass for Frank Zappa will serve 25 years for molesting a child younger than 14 over an extended period, the Tarrant County district attorney's office said.

Roy Ralph Estrada, who performed with Zappa's The Mothers of Invention, abused the female family member in Tarrant County after he was released from a California prison for another child abuse case.

Estrada, 68, is being temporarily housed at the J. Middleton prison unit near Abilene. He pleaded guilty in January to a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child.

"The victim's family was unaware that he was a convicted sex offender,” Melody McDonald, spokeswoman for the Tarrant district attorney's office, said in an email.

"Estrada was sentenced to 25 years in a plea bargain agreement and is not eligible for parole. He will be 93 years old before he is released from prison."

On Dec. 9, 1994, Estrada was convicted in Orange County, Calif., of the felony offense of committing a lewd act with a child, according to records from the Tarrant County district attorney’s office.

After he served his six-year sentence, he reconnected with his family in Texas, McDonald said. He was indicted on the new charge in March 2008.

Zappa, a musical innovator described by The New York Times as rock’s most committed iconoclast, died at his Los Angeles home at age 52 in 1993.

The stage shows of his band, the Mothers of Invention, were renowned for precise musicianship and uninhibited, sometimes scatological humor, his Times obituary said.

You have to mention Frank as part of the story, but the last sentence was totally unnecessary and seems to being trying to infer something.

As Richard Pryor said to Gene Wilder..."They don't do that because they think you'll like it. They do it to hear you make that sound!"

What I was trying to point out was what I thought was obvious, that is, how perverse things get quite often with humans. Any body who has to rape Roy Estrada up the ass to teach him a lesson is also a pretty sick person in my view. When was the last time you raped somebody to just to hear a funny sound? And besides, maybe Roy likes it up the ass and rough at the same time.

They might as well of said "Frank Zappa's MOI was into that sort of material, which Roy Estrada followed to it's perverted end." At least thats how it reads to me.

I'm so glad to hear about this---although the victim's family (and the victim from '94) are even more thrilled. Quite true, Kapt., molesters are about the lowest of the low in jail....he won't be having a good time, that's for sure. I believe there is a special place in Hell for these craven cowards----dress cool, Roy!

That is very sad.

Does that in any way diminish the value of his former contributions to Zappa's music? Is it now impossible to listen to recordings that have Roy on them? Can we now watch the rubber doll episode of Baby Snakes ever again?

Th.

I had trouble watching that in the first place. I don't think I've watched Baby Snakes since I saw it originally.

I never though it was funny anyway and I am not a puritan either. Last time I watched it this discussion already have been around here, so it was odd.

Very sad for everyone involved. Zappa must have turned in his grave (was he cremated? If so each ash molecule did so...) .

Anyone know where to get a list of the actual tracks he sang or played on. Before anyone gets any ideas, no, I am not looking so I can avoid hearing them, or so I can sit and listen only to tracks he was on. Just a matter of curiosity.

Roy ain't no former anything anymore as there's not enough room on his new business cards for anything but:
Roy Estrada - Convicted Child Molester - Repeat Offender

There's a special place in whatever you want to call hell for ex-humans of this ilk and prison is just the prelude.

Sorry about your fucked up wiring Roy but you're done.

Probably we shouldn't be surprised that some of the people Frank hung around with ended up doing wierd, nasty, dangerous things. It's happened over and over again - Wild Man Fischer, that strange-o at the Log Cabin, Christine Frka from the GTO's and now Estrada.

Jim Gordon heard voices inside his head and killed his mother. Anybody ever got the idea, that sometimes these people weren't criminals but insane people? If so, they belong in some asylum but not in jail.

I've thought about Jim Gordon too. I think in his case, he went off his meds to control his shifting brain chemistry.

There's no doubt in my mind that this kind of thing generally brings out the worst in many people.
