She loves cassette tapes to cull albums from..
Perhaps JT should transfer them to TDK D-60 first for gaining her attention?

I personally don't know. But I think they wait too long to release the important stuff. Sooner or later it could be too late. There is decreasing public interest in Zappa anyway. People who didn't live in the 60s/70s/80s seem to have no relation to things like FZ and the cultural background of those days. My opinion: the ZFT is wasting time and money with releases like Hammersmith, Philly, etc. The majority of ZFT releases is unimportant and doesn't add much to the legacy. They should release the rest of his finished projects and take care of the official lifetime catalogue to preserve and document it in optimal and up to date formats. I doubt that the vault will offer much more than that.

I wrote a long reply to this and managed to close the browser window before sending it. Ack!

Just a note that I agree. We need more original material. Ma Maison is nice and I'm enjoying it pretty well. Before that, you have to go back to Imaginary Diseases to find one that I can really get excited about.

Frank was working on this album during the last months of his life. I can easily imagine that those months have a very poignant association with the Zappa Family. Maybe it's just too painful to deal with, I can respect that.

The other possibility is that he didn't finish it. Does anyone actually know how far he got with this project?

The best summary of informations/assumptions is, once again, to be found on IINK: http://globalia.net/donlope/fz/notes/Dance_Me_This.html. According to them it seems to be finished.

Why? Is it sited in San Antonio?

My personal guess is, that they simply want to keep the tension a little bit longer, cause there ain't no other "new" albums left for release than dance and rage. Maybe they think, the 75th birthday would be a good occasion?

Maybe Gail realizes that once DMT and the Roxy vid are released no one will give a damn what she has to say anymore?

For years I've suspected she's been holding back for this reason.

I would still be curious about plans for other Zappa releases after those came out.

Yea, I'm just sharpening my stick. She's used to it.

I'm tempted to make a total trash mix of all Frank synclavier musics piled on top of eachother and put it up on youtube as the "unreleased dance me this" record.

You know, released as a cd I'd probably buy this. In the absence of the real thing it'd bloody do.

:D

Don't forget to add wolf and goat noises for "Wolf Harbor" and "Goat Polo".

[yowza x3] for ursinator & irish_boris, excellent efforts, very professional, still can't decide the better of the two, both have killer graphics, keen perpspectives and plenty of conceptual continuity, maybe boris's is a but more subtle, another piece of the puzzle dances into place like a puppet out of thingfish or even the central scutinizer, this art would make a great cd cover; ursinators is classic zappa art reminiscent of both ruben & a freak out scene with those dancing 'underground' figures

I hastily withdraw my post from any judging - I just ripped the pic from somewhere and stuck the title on coz I thought it'd be appropriate. Hope I didn't mislead, wasn't my intention. Anyway hope you're over it now. Hey seen gz sez? Less than a year to wait now!

Hey Boris, don't be so shy. Typical criticism of FZ was that he used a lot of elements that he didn't actually create himself. That picture in the context of the agony of waiting for Dance Me This puts it totally into perspective.
