Now that must have been time consuming.Did you ever lose any tape and have to splice it back together,now thats a hassle.I've got a FZ full concert at FT.Collins CO.circa 74-78,that's broke and I need to splice it together.What a hassel! The old 8 tracks were easy by compairison.

Some of my own tapes of a garage band I had in my early twenties got scrunched by a shit tape recorder and I had to do some repairs on those so that I could then transfer them to another copy. I didn't have any equipment like FZ would have been using in his tape splicing days I did mine totally by hand.

They did their best stuff together, neither of them really scaled the heights with the post-waters floyd stuff, nor waters' solo stuff.

Waters, when he left his champagne socialism out of his lyrics, wrote timeless stuff. But sadly, as time went on, he became more political and less introspective and his songs suffered as a result. The only real criticism of Gilmour is that he never really changed his style that much, even with his solo stuff and his songs sometimes cry out for the lyrical genius that Waters once was and Gilmour never really managed to be. And Waters did produce some proper nasty stuff in the 80s so.........

If I had to choose, then I would choose Gilmour, as his music has brought me a great deal of happiness.

I get what you're saying. For me in my early days of Pink Floyd fandom (I was drawn in by DSOTM first, a couple of years after it came out), Gilmour's singing voice and guitar style were a big part of the attraction to the band. As I said above, I don't like the question, but if I had to choose it would be Gilmour. Having said that, Waters runs a mean concert tour.

Aye, I agree it's a tough question to answer and perhaps, just a little unfair on both of them!

The real question about Pink Floyd for me is; Barrett, or Post-Barrett Floyd. Personally, I think they would have never developed into the phenomenal band they became if Syd was still at the helm, as he had a radically different style both lyrically and structurally. While I enjoy the Barrett albums, they simply don't have the same resonance for me that the likes of Dark Side of The Moon, Animals and Wish You Were Here has.

I know that's not always a popular viewpoint though, there's still many people loyal to Syd!

I agree in that I think that Syd Pink Floyd and post Syd are two different bands and I don't think they could have carried on with him - though I think "Vegetable Man" and "Scream Thy Last Scream" are actually the two best Pink Floyd songs.
I enjoy post-Syd Floyd too, but always cringe a bit at some of Waters's lyrics as they seem a bit "sixth-formy" to me. I also think that he wrote too many songs about Syd. He should have left the topic with "Brain Damage" IMO, which is affecting and wry.
Personality-wise, I think Gilmour is definitely a "nicer person"; although Waters can be amusing he's amazingly arrogant and egoistic.

I think Waters faltered when he ventured into political stuff, the cognitive dissonance and irony of a fabulously rich musician singing about the evils of money and lecturing via metaphor on the insidious natures of the rich and powerful, is a little bit crass and a big bit hypocritical, unless of course he was just wonderfully acute at satirising himself.

On another note though, the vast majority of floyd fans, were probably introduced to them when they were in their teens and maybe this is why, despite the sometimes cringeworthyness of the lyrics, they still resonate hugely with their fanbase. I personally think that Waters had some fantastic lyrics and I think you need a good dose of ego to be a successful singer in a successful band, it's ego that pushes them to the mic in the first place. Though Waters took egomania to an unprecedentedly new level and when it gets like that, they tend to churn out more shit than gold.

David Gilmour in bomb scare

Pink Floyd star David Gilmour fled his holiday home with his family after discovering a World War II bomb buried underneath the site.The music legend is currently renovating his $4.8 million (£3 million) seaside mansion in East Sussex, England, but his building plans had to be delayed after they unearthed the explosive device. Gilmour's wife Polly Samson writes in a post on her Twitter.com page, "They've found a bomb under our building site! We think it's a bit of old pipe but MoD (Ministry of Defence) on their way." A bomb disposal team turned up at the site, and removed the item. Sampson added, "They've taken away our bomb. Incendiary but missing bit that makes it go bang."

It looks like we finally have an answer to the question "Mother do you think they'll drop the bomb?".

Waters was the heart and soul of PF. He wrote the majority of material. No doubt that Gilmour is one of the best, but if they were each playing live on the same night, I would see Waters.

This is perfectly ordinary English and makes perfect sense. They found a bomb that was missing its detonator. Cleon is the one who has no clue about English.
