Now I know I shouldn't bring this up since there's probably a ton of you who think 200 Motels should only be viewed in 1.33:1, but I just needed to properly ask this question that's been on my mind.
If there were a widescreen 1.66:1 DVD version of 200 Motels, keeping in mind that the original VT footage can never be in any higher quality than 576 lines, would it be better anamorphic or non-anamorphic?

For visual aid here's some VHS shots:

Non-Anamorphic 1.66:1

Anamorphic 1.66:1

The images are purely meant as an example of where and how the film would be cropped, as they are taken from the VHS the quality is sub-standard.

What my real question is which version would be better, anamorphic, non-anamorphic, or both?

Actually I can't say or take the credit for how the original shot of Volman was lifted from the VHS, as I got it off the SOTCAA "200 Motels on DVD" article here: http://www.sotcaa.net/editnews/200-Motels-On-DVD.html. All I did was crop them a little to fit within the DVD image size.
