Does anyone know what FZ stance on gun possession was? I read somewhere on the net that he was initially against guns, but this changed after producing the Grand Funk album containing the song, "Don't let them take your guns." Does anyone know if there is any truth to this, or what his beliefs regarding this matter actually were?

Strangely enough, I don't recall him speaking specifically about gun control in any of his interviews or songs. There is an anti-NRA whiff in Jesus Thinks Your A Jerk though.

Mark Farner touches on the subject briefly and in the most general way with some interview on Youtube when FZ asked about the lyrics of Grand Funk's "Don't Let 'em Take Your Gun"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0I84S9cR2TE

Farner explained the idea behind the lyrics and according to his account, instructed him on how to shoot a pistol. He set up some bottles and cans for him to shoot. Farner mentions that FZ was somewhat gleeful (my word) at hitting the targets. For a guy who liked exploding things as a kid, he may have found this fun for a couple of minutes during a GFRR recording break, but I think his position was probably more con than pro, or at least moderate.

FZ was a constitutional fudamentalist (he said so many times on CNN) and also hated the idea of his rights being taken away. My guess is, he supported the right to own guns.

Zappa and fundamentalist don't go well on the same phrase... Did he?

Look up some of his anti-PMRC videos on Youtube. I don't have the time right now or I would. I believe he said it when he testified before Congress.

I can remember himself describing his stance as conservative, but fundamentalist is quiet a strong word... I'd be surprised if he did...

A terrific Mark Farner interview (with a bit about FZ starting at 9:30).

I agree, but lots of people like them.

So there's nothing out there about this?
