Hello
I'm so happy now I can be registred in Zappa forum (before I had to wait weeks before my comments are publish).
Now my best wish is to identify all the vocals in Zappa's songs because when I listened music I like to know who is doing what (probably a jazz heritage - even if I don't listen jazz).
So I'm starting now and I requiere your help to identify some voices.
Thanks cheers

I will do it little by little. What I put in '' '' means the lyrics where the voice is singing. Feel free to correct my mistakes.
Thanks

You are fine. <------ This is something you will not hear alot around here, but in this case it applies. This thread has been viewed a couple hundred times by now, but don't expect people to post like crazy or even necessarily nicely. Nevertheless, it looks like a cool way of breaking down the tunes that you have thought of. So, all of us ignorant rude people will probably end up using your list as a resource if you complete it. Then we'll probably forget to give you credit for it. Ultimately we will appreciate your idea, you just may not ever know that we do! Don't stop now! :)

I'm sure it's Frank doing the "A year ago today" in that cholo voice he would whip out surprisingly often. You can hear it on "Greasy Love Songs" on the "Secret Greasing" track (where he reads the story of Rubin.)

I'm pretty sure there's no Jimmy. Roy's on the high backing and Frank's on the low backing. Ray does the part that starts "A year ago today", Frank does the part that starts "Go ahead and cry" and later at the end that starts "I love you so much". Ray is also doubling his own parts at a different pitch via overdub. Roy's parts are multi layered as well.

I think you got it backwards, that's Frank doing the talking intro of "A year ago today", with Ray coming in to sing "Go cry on..." and the rest of the song with numerous over-dub and frank doing the low bits.

We are talking about the Freak Out! album aren't we? I'm not guessing. Okay, I get it, that is Frank at the opening, but that's not singing, I'm not sure what the technical term is for that kind of vocalising. But, it is definitely Ray Collins singing the line that begins "A year ago today" starting at 1:12.
