What? You want me to spend an hour over-analyzing a piece of stream-of-consciousness alliteration that he probably wrote while he was sitting on an airplane (a la "Dumb All Over")?

I stand by my original answer...

my question had nothing to do with your interpretation of the lyrics and everything to do with your delivery of a decent punch line.

your second answer was a little better, thanks.

In some interview FZ mentions players of the band waiting to play their solo with the blue light shining upon them, or their chance to stand in the blue light; something like that. My interpretation is that it is a spotlight.

Light! LIGHT! LIGHT!

I just gave it a few minutes and tried to read the lyrics carefully (while listenning), and I've found that i have totally no idea what the song is about. Why? To whom?

Who is "hopeless"? Why?
What pizza places - why?...
References to Donovan - why?

Any suggessions appreciated! :-) Even tiny details, etc. (Or is is just some stupid nonsense only?...)

Why you so stupid :D

One of my favorite tracks on TR!! After originally thinking it was about some old old old movie I remembered seeing (in the late 60's) about when Atlantis sank, (there was some sort of light/ray that sank the island) I always thought it was about people that watched waaay too much television.

The blue light is also the blueish glow that is emitted by cathode ray TV screens (best seen when watching TV in a dark room). So the song also works as a critique of how people are being dumbed down by overexposure to the idiot box.

I also instinctively thought the same thing although after reading others input it could be any of these or something else...the old TV's also would give off a high pitch tone, not everyone could hear, we could sometimes walking home from school tell who had their TV on because we could hear the tone as we were passing the house.

Still wonder what the three Musketeer reference is about. Maybe just a pun on Ethos (Athos, Porthos, Aramis).

Just silliness, maybe?

Ethos? (ethics) Pathos (pathetic) adding in the Musketeers Porthos and Aramis (which is also a cologne) and the Brut colgone...

It all sort of works together in a silly way...
