On the short I-Tunes sample, Bow Tie Daddy follows the "outrageous filth" quote in Porn Wars Deluxe.

UNDERSTANDING AMERICA is one of only three compilation albums produced and titled by FZ himself. (Ironically, MOTHERMANIA is another and is also on schedule for October 30.)

so i allready have mothermania on lp. it's a compilation and so will be "understanding america".
as the quote above says it's produced and titled by FZ, so i have to get it, it's also much cheaper then mothermania, i think i paid about 30.00 chf = 32.14$ for the lp, UA is 11.99$ on itunes.

as a longtime fan from frank (way back to 1978) i allways have to get ALL (book's, video, DVD, LP, CD) so this 11.99$ is quit cheap (just orderid "road tapes" and have to spend 14.79$ only for shipping to switzerland, or, flying in november to kopenhagen to see ZpZ, cost me about 270$, i don't care, ZpZ do's not come to switzerland and i have to see DZ)

Picked up my copy at PO at lunch time

#93 - similar to new releases
large case
case similar to QuAudiophiliaC

Disc 1 73.05 in length
Disc 2 69.28 in length

in liner notes

Mastered Bob Ludwig 2008
Vaultmeisterment by Joe Travers 2008
Original Source 1991/2/3 1630 Digital Master by FZ

Picked up at PO on my lunch 1/2 hour - listened to 14 minutes of PWD - very different
many various Verve cuts thru-out those 14 minutes - plus an interuption by Ike/Thingfish Willis.

photo of small page listing of tracks on disc 2
Don't Care (10) - could that mean 10" vinyl version (if such a thing exists??) or take 10?
nothing like that for disc 1.

Ho hum - I suppose this means I have to get it; though I'm never keen on compilations.

The large case makes it easy for me to skip this one. I never liked the oversized packaging of QuAudiophiliaC.

This is ridiculous, why wouldn't they keep it the same size case to be uniform with the re-issues?

Verve cuts - bits of music from Freak Out. Absolutely Free, Lumpy Gravy and WOIIFTM - the Verve releases

It Can't Happen Here - Brain Police - Brown Shoes - Bow Tie Daddy - lots of the spoken parts of Lumpy Gravy.

That would be my initial reaction also. But well, I hate this strategy of putting one new item on a double of known material just to drag in the fans. FZ approved or not.

Yes. It is an excerpt from an early version of "Galoot Update" (which is heavily bootlegged). It has a different backing track. He changed it to the backing track from "The Blue Light" for the version released on Thing-Fish.

I just received mine from Amazon, and it's the same size as the other UMe reissues (i.e. standard-size jewel case).

Also worth noting that in the jewel case, the artwork makes more sense:

Does it have any information, liner notes about the goal of the compilation?... And: is it really #93?... Is so, why?

Yes it does (thanks for the pic!), but it's still ugly... :-)

Yes when I opened it it looked larger bacause of the sideways set up.

PWD - There are two Ike Willis segments along with the aforementioned early Mother's Verve records edits and also most of the later tune Sex.

I Am the Slime cuts out early and goes into the next tune.

All the songs I listened to seem to be the same mixes that we already know of.

Thanks for the info. Amazon UK seem to be making a dog's breakfast of this release. I managed to get it from a trader on Amazon, and had notification it has been shipped.

Source 91,92,93 1630 digital masters by FZ. Vaultmeisterment by Joe Travers UMRK 2008. Mastered by Bob Ludwig Gateway Mastering 2008.

Conceived, Composed and Produced by Frank Zappa.

Other verbiage:

Just what the world needs - another CD release on yet another little record label. But then again this label has been there, done that and is home (along with it's little sister label, Barking Pumpkin) to the uniquely specialized repertoire of an Artist who never failed to understand that he was working for a highly specialized audience. This is for you.

This work is about love, peace, justice and the American way. It's about compassion and responsibility. It's about ethics and honor. It's about time and it is about money. And bogus pomp and circumstance. Predictions and politics. It is the low-down on high altitudes. Check out the menu for yourself and you will see that the main ingredients, each in their own persuasion and marinating well into the next century, have been carefully skewered and roasted to the peak of perfection by the Master Chef, author of one of the ALL TIME GREAT COOKBOOKS, Understanding America. Oh, and finally, it is about Music. Put some in your cauldron and please, don't forget to VOTE!

Many of the edits were obviously well thought-out; specifically 'What Kind of Girl Do You Think We Are?' into 'Camarillo Brillo' being in the same key, and so forth...

If Understanding America is official release #93, which one is #92? Carnegie Hall is #91 so I'm confused. Sorry if this is a dumb question. Thanks for any help.

I've never been interested in compilations, because mostly they contain songs that I already have on the studio albums. And "Porn Wars Deluxe" is not a song that gets me interested in buying this. Give us something more interesting please! I hope 200 Motels will be issued soon (if they got the rights to it).

My guess is that Road Tapes Venue 1 will be #92.

I'm guessing Road Tapes would be numbered separately, but who knows. Are the Joes Domage type stuff numbered? I never bought them. yet.
