Makes me so sad. I was going to a concert with him a month ago, and it was canceled "due to illness". I had this eerie feeling that he was not well. He looked fragile last year when I saw him (but he played powerful as always).

Alex Karras is likely still alive, but his death is said to be "imminent."

I know I'll never forget him...

The "fart scene" from Blazing Saddles is one of the most memorable in cinematic history. Also when Mongo punches the horse. Alex was imbedded into my psyche from an early age. Besides Blazing Saddles, I read Paper Lion by George Plimpton around this time. I also remember the 300 Pound Jerk, a movie about a romance between an American Weightlifter and a foreign (Russian?) gymnast at the 1972 Olympics. I also named my son Webster. While the inspiration for the name was from my Dad (his nickname was Webb), the tie-in to the TV show was there from the beginning. Of course, Alex was on MNF for a time as well. I felt I could always relate to this guy.

The fart scene from Blazzing Saddles was most likely barrowed from a surfing movie that had a very similiar scene a few years before, I wish I could remember the name of the movie...

Very sad news.
I hadn't known him until I saw him live last year and I was very impressed.

RIP

He doesn't look very well in that photo from 1971 - I'm surprised he lasted this long.

He certainly looked a lot worse in the last few days. Dying of kidney failure is not pretty...

Steve Paul - I don't really know his whole story but he was an east coast rock and roll manager type guy. Big in Johnny Winter's career and others.

Hans Werner Henze, german composer of modern music, died at the age of 86. As far as i know Boulez never liked his work to much. In the interview where Boulez allegedly said, u should bomb all opera houses, he also said that the compositions of the Beatles were much more clever than Henzes ones.

Dutch author Bernlef (75), a great loss for modern Dutch literature.

There isn't a song on this one that I don't like. Sunset Boulevard,Comin' Up From Babylon and Love Can Do are great stand out songs. His voice blends rather well with Beth Orton's.
