How about something from the 1970 MOI reunion tour? Or maybe a show from '67 with Billy Mundi drumming? Or the Whisky-a-Go-Go tapes Joe showed us from '68? Not that I'm a hardcore original Mothers freak (I love all of Frank's bands) but that wouldn't be bad for a start!

OK but Halloween is NOT next week.

Now it is...

Since we're (supposedly) getting some Roxy goodness in the near future, I'd be interested in Road Tapes action involving any pre-Roxy band lineup, including proto-Roxy band shows with Ponty. I love the late '70s bands with Bozzio and Colaiuta, but those periods are already well represented in existing Vaulternative releases.

Since FZ had originally intended to release a 12-LP collection of the original MOI in action, I have to think there's a treasure trove of audio from them beyond what's been released already.

I haven't been able to find one....and I don't think it's on the boot lists out there.

It's definitely not in circulation, nor has it ever been. Before this announcement, out of the 11 Vancouver shows Zappa and/or The Mothers played, only 5 of them are in and/or have been known to be in circulation at one time or another. Those are:

1974 03 14 - Agrodome, Vancouver, Canada
90 min, Aud, B+/B
Inca Roads, Montana, improvisations, Dupree's Paradise (incl. Carolina Hard-Core Ecstasy vamp), Pygmy Twylyte (incl. Dummy Up), The Idiot Bastard Son, Cheepnis, Andy, Florentine Pogen, Kung Fu, Penguin In Bondage, T'Mershi Duween, Dog Meat

1975 10 01 - War Memorial Gymnasium, Vancouver, Canada
115 min, Aud, B+
90 min, SBD/FM, A-
The SBD/FM ends in the middle of Zoot Allures. Complete show compiled from different sources is 120 min.
Blues, Apostrophe, intros (Duke Of Prunes vamp), Honey Don't You Want A Man Like Me?, The Illinois Enema Bandit, Carolina Hard-Core Ecstasy, Lonely Little Girl, Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance, What's The Ugliest Part Of Your Body?, Chunga's Revenge, Swallow My Pride, Any Downers (incl Canadian Customs Routine), T'Mershi Duween, Zoot Allures, Sleep Dirt, Black Napkins, Advance Romance, I'm The Slime

1980 03 26 - Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver, BC, Canada
90 min, Aud, A-
Don't Eat The Yellow Snow, intros/Nanook Rubs It vamp, Teenage Wind, Harder Than Your Husband, Bamboozled By Love, Pick Me I'm Clean, Society Pages, I'm A Beautiful Guy, Beauty Knows No Pain, Charlie's Enormous Mouth, Any Downers?, Conehead, Easy Meat, Mudd Club, The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing, Heavenly Bank Account, Suicide Chump, Jumbo Go Away, If Only She Woulda, I Don't Wanna Get Drafted, Joe's Garage, Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?

1984 12 18 - Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Vancouver, Canada
Early show
80 min, Aud, A-/B+
Teenage Wind, Truck Driver Divorce, My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama, Willie The Pimp, Montana, Alien Orifice, Drowning Witch, The Black Page [parts on YCDTOSA4], Cocaine Decisions, Nig Biz, Brown Moses, The Evil Prince [parts on YCDTOSA4], He's So Gay, Bobby Brown, Joe's Garage, Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?, intro (q: William Tell Overture), Little Girl Of Mine, The Closer You Are, No No Cherry (q: Billy The Mountain), In France

1984 12 18 - Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Vancouver, Canada
Late show
115 min, Aud, C
85 min, Aud, B
The better sounding source cuts in Let's Move To Cleveland.
Zoot Allures (q: Waka/Jawaka), The Illinois Enema Bandit, Tinsel Town Rebellion [parts on DHBIM], Trouble Every Day [parts on DHBIM], Penguin In Bondage (q: Jingle Bells) [parts on DHBIM], Hot Plate Heaven At The Green Hotel [DHBIM], Stick Together [parts on YCDTOSA4], Marqueson's Chicken, City Of Tiny Lights (q: Hall Of The Mountain King), You Are What You Is, Mudd Club, The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing, Carolina Hard-Core Ecstasy, Advance Romance [parts on YCDTOSA3], Bamboozled By Love (q: We Three Kings), Let's Move To Cleveland [incl. Canadian Customs, G; drum solo on DHBIM], Dong Work For Yuda, Keep It Greasey, Cock-Suckers' Ball, WPLJ, Dinah-Moe Humm, Whipping Post (q: King Kong)

And that's one of the reasons why I think this release is going to be very intriguing...

any COMPLETE 1973 JLP show.

Absolutely agree ! ! !

It's already a good start that the first in the series is a rare uncirculated 1968 show with "Holiday In Berlin" on it.

Capitol Theater, Passaic, October 1978 shows on double DVD, mono, b&w, warts and all. Tommy's keyboard rig with the EML kinda fed through the Synkey's cirquits is awesome!

Y'know, I don't necessarily agree with the users that claim all of the post-Läther posthumous releases are inferior to all the antecedent albums just because FZ himself wouldn't have put them out. But I got a hunch that the reason a 1973 show with JLP hasn't appeared has been because FZ considered them the most boring group he ever had. It must've been them that FZ sneered about in "Po-Jama People". No wonder only a lame snippet of "Father O'Blivion" is on the YCDTOSA volumes, because every other touring band showcased (1960s MOI, Flo&Eddie group, the Roxy/Helsinki band with NMB, and every touring unit after that) had way more personality and humour collectively by Zappa's standards.

I heard that it was the Wazoo band that he was having a go at.
