I can't believe that it is possible to be a Frank Zappa fan and to have problems with the above music at the same time. You are probably wrong in the universe of Frank Zappa and other related concepts. You should better consider buying the latest releases by Robbie Williams, Lady Gaga and the like instead, if you didn't already. You must be somebody who came from hearing Bobby Brown on the radio first and then discovering things, that were horrifying for you.

I think anybody who is into Zappa should have understood the basic concept of artistic freedom. Recently I was astound about how many people from the Zappa world have simple-minded problems with an album like Trout Mask Replica in that other thread.

That's a bit fatuous isn't it.
For the most part I would agree with UglyRadio-the above tracks are amongst the least best of FZ's work.
I get the concept of 'artistic freedom' but most of the above simply aren't very interesting for repeated listening. I've listened to them all a lot over the last twenty-odd years and I don't think I've ever pressed 'repeat' for any of them
FZ did tons of great stuff. This stuff is near the bottom IMHO.

Try to change your standpoint so you will hopefully get a new perspective. Otherwise you would miss something. The apparently subordinate things are the ones which are really important and valuable. The ordinary songs and instrumentals anyway – but listen to the stuff in between: the noise, the silence, the experiments, the ugly things, etc. Don't push the skip button. Push repeat where you never did before. Some of them are on the above list.

A lot of the edits within songs in the YCDTOSA series are a bit terrible. I can't recall the volume, but cutting in an ancient lo-fi chorus of "Lonesome Cowboy Burt" into a later recorded version is just shit awful on the ears. You're into the new track, then the old one comes on and throws you right out of the song. Then you get used to it and it throws you back to the new recording. Oof! Maybe we'll get some "Road Tapes" version of some of the more interesting material that showed up on these releases.

There are a lot of goofy throwaway songs like "Coneheads", but "Promiscuous" is just terrible in every way. Even as a satire of shitty white rap music it's terrible. Zappa was way better then that, especially with that band.

I was never huge on "Guitar" either, but listening to it last night with fresh ears, I enjoyed it a lot more. I wont right it off.

I find the 2 LP version of Guitar quite more enjoyable than the 2 CD version.

Find Her Finer!!! I like that song,it's a fun song.Why I often wrap like a mummy until I finally grind her. I like the tune too! I Dinah Moe Hum it all the time,whether at home,work or play. :wink: It fits with DMH and Fine Girl. 8)

SEX is certainly a stupid song, but it doesn't touch the awfulness of Promiscuous.

though I haven't listened to that album in a long time. Maybe I'll like it when I revisit it. :D

I think it's easier for me to tolerate the songs on BTHW because of the obvious political intentions.

What are you saying? Watermelon in Easter Hay is one of Zappa's greatest guitar performances, and songs! It is a masterpiece!

I could very easily be wrong, but I think it's fairly safe to assume there was sarcasm littering buffalo's comment, and if not, well, I suppose it's buffalo's loss.

That being said, am I the only Zappa fan who just doesn't care for "Let Me Take You to the Beach"? It made me giggle a bit during the first few listens, but it's worn worse for wear on me faster than live renditions of "Dinah Moe Humm"

I like a lot of Zappa's Musique Concrete pieces and his noise experiments, but I can't stand the song "Weasels Ripped My Flesh." It sounds like the noise the vacuum cleaner makes when I vacuum out my car at the self-serve car wash. On the other hand, it's the only Zappa song I am able to play. :mrgreen:
