Definitely not the Wazoo band at The Oval. It is is 47 minutes in. From what I can make out it is somewhere in Europe (possibly Holland or Germany) where the B&W silent footage is Frank really badly limping about from the Hotel or somesuch with Herbie holding the traffic up. Footage with the band on the bus and rehearsals in a concert hall. Then a colour film on a bus in London.

Thank you diplo...the reason I asked is because I was at the Oval concert and I know for sure that somebody in the crowd was filming this. He was stood kind of to the side of me and had a big cine camera thing on his shoulder.
I also like your signature it's the title of a song on Glastonbury Fayer as I remember...is it Brinsley Schwartz?....the old memory is a bit rusty these days 8)

Hello Microdot,

That is good to know about your witness account about filming at The Oval - was that the same gig as Jan Akkerman and Focus? There has to more footage. I think the Dutch team which made the original film heavily used in the VPRO doc before Frank was injured in mid Dec 1971 might have been back when he ventured out in public again. Look for the film on google I'm sure you will be able to access it for viewing. As for your eye witness account I am unaware of film from the Oval so I wonder if it is a local BBC or ITV news crew. Sadly a lot of film seems to be shot but we only ever see less than 20 seconds if it makes it onto TV and we have to wonder what gets hidden, forgotten or more usually wiped. As for my Blanket.. Its the track after Brinsley Schwarz on the LP set, its my favourite 'remarkable' track, it's Mighty Baby.

Here's a list of the people that appeared at Rock at the Oval, Kennington 9/16/72.
Frank Zappa , Hawkwind,Beck,Bogart and Appice,Linda Lewis,Man , Biggles ,Sam Apple Pie ,Quiver.
MC Kid Jensen. No mention of Focus, I did however see them at a Reading festival.

That's a good point about the filming being shot by a news crew, tis possible and one that I must admit I had not thought about. It would have been filmed from an audience point of view.
I will try again with YouTube footage....I will trudge upstairs and fire up the old PC....these new fangled tablets are very convenient but sometimes they like to throw a googly (cricket reference there  )

Near miss with Blanket.

I have just done some research and I found this.....Melody Maker Poll Awards Concert
The Oval , Kennington .
September 30th
1972.
Wishbone Ash, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Genesis, Argent , Focus ,Jack Bruce, Fudd .

Frank Zappa - 1984 Kreega Bondola http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xY6ExdrVK0
Kreega Bondola (2 CD)
Saratoga Performing Arts Centre, New York, 1-Sep-1984
audio content from the bootleg, sound quality above average bootlegs, 2hours entire concert

Frank Zappa - Binghamton, NY 1988-03-17 (part 2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyvPAFVFJMs
audio only, 70 mins, sound quality above average bootlegs, includes Texas motel medley, but where is part1???

Zappa / Mothers 1975 Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Kansas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw6yTpfMGZc
10-14-1975, audio only, sound quality still ok, not complete concert but still 1:11:01 duration time which means, if it was 10 seconds longer...

Frank Zappa & Ensemble Modern - The Yellow Shark Rehearsals http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBlZ7gCJoWE
36min video, food gathering in post industrial america and welcome to the united states

Frank Zappa - More Yellow Shark Rehearsals http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_40V6SBPVGA
seems 2 b from a TV-docu, poor video resolution but entirely hot material!!!

Frank Zappa Serious Music (Long Playing Bootleg) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kov1nOAFIgw
1. The World's Greatest Sinner
2. Revenge of the Knick-Knack People
3. RDNZL
4. Inca Roads
5. Sinister Footwear
"...By far the most interesting piece present is his nearly 27-minute suite "Sinister Footwear," which Zappa only released in abbreviated form in his lifetime, and that was featuring his band. This performance was recorded during a concert by the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra; no date is given but it is probably circa 1977-1982. ..."

^ Sinister Footwear's world premiere* was at the Zellerbach Auditorium,Berkeley,CA. on June 15th,1984.
I was lucky enough to see it and get a signed program.Met and talked to FZ there too.I'm a lucky guy,I know! :D

* We hot glued the sneaker together so the dancers would stop poking their heads out during the preformance. That was very distracting to the piece.

I became a fan 2 years later, 2 late for this concert but soon enough to see the 88-Band and the yellow shark. The rock versions of sinister footwear blew me away by the 1st time listening and i was always curious on the orchestral version.

I was all ready to see FZ in '88 and had I known the left coast was gonna get cut out,I would've flown back east and seen a couple of shows. He did do one more rock tour in '84 after "A Zappa Affair" and that was the last time I saw him.Boy was I bummed I missed the '88 tour man! Well at least I got to see him in 3 different decades and usually two shows each time.
Like the song sez :
Those were the daze my friend,
I thought they'd never end.

But they did.All things must pass. El Bummo! :(
