Don't forget, Joe is "out of office" these days, playing gigs with ZPZ. Joining discussions on this forum is probably not on his list of priorities at the moment, which I don't mind.

This discussion looks like a dead horse, pretty much like the release itself.

But I understand Americans so much better now! We're just a bunch of over-sexed idiot assholes who want to censor everything!

Well, I assume that Joe may have just been working very hard on the tapes restoration process and then on the 2012 release campaign, so it is not very difficult to understand how and why his feeling could have been hurt reading a straightforward comment about one of his babies.
I also suspect this non-event is partly due to a few misunderstanding on every side, but we should not take our actions and reactions here and there too seriously, life is too short for pointless disputes.

Now there's someone using their head...good job Maroual!

Terrific question! Do you have enough space on your mp3 player?

Currently, I have a 250 GB player.
However in the case I would need more space, I know there exists one that can store up to 500GB :

I'm kinda curious what that has to do with his question.

The guess right now is music, possibly guitar related. But it's just a guess.

It's a nice business model - don't tell anybody what's in the product, but people but it anyway.

Sorry, I thought this was the Finer Moments thread for some reason. Yes, Understanding America is a compilation.

Sorry I quoted the wrong person. I should ask Dark Clothes why it would storage would make a difference whether it's music or conversation.

Geez, I'm all sorts of wrong in this thread.

I can say without hyperbole that this is a million times better than any compilation that the ZFT have put out this year.

It's fine, as a completist nut, saying to all the completist nuts out there, oh just buy it - give in.

I agree with the guy from Zappa patio, the mix is like a Ryko release.

If Porn Wars Deluxe had appeared as an outtake on a boot or somesuch, I would not have believed it was made by Frank.

Ive had it in the car for a few days now, nice mix of music....Initially strange to be grooving along to an oh so familiar track that then cuts into the completely unexpected.

This CD will make an excellent christmas gift with which to subvert uninitiated unsuspecting relatives and friends.......

I really don't get all the upset over this album. Surely we all agree that with Ryko out of the picture, Gail had to find a way to get FZ's catalogue back on the market - hence UME. One of her beefs with Ryko was their gratuitous releasing of all those compilations of FZ's music that weren't put together by FZ himself. She's hardly going to rerelease Strictly Commercial or those Cheap Thrills items via UME. Mothermania is back for an early Mothers compilation, so, it seems a later compilation put together by Frank himself is not an inappropriate candidate. It's that simple.

Just another review from elsewhere (http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B009GGWX4K/ref=pd_sim_m_h__cm_cr_acr_img_2)
3 of 5 people found the following review helpful
1.0 out of 5 stars A Family Trust Minefield!, 24 Nov 2012
By
Mr M S Read - See all my reviews
This review is from: Understanding America (Audio CD)
I've been a lifelong and commited Zappa fan; there's undoubtedly something exquisitely unique about so much of his music. So, like other Zappa fans, I'm often prepared to take a bit of a punt on any newly discovered CD. And, for the loyal Zappa fan who doesn't yet possess the mind- bogglingly immense full catalogue, I would strongly contend that there is indeed still much worth searching out.

When considering yet another purchase picking through a list of song titles on its own can be somewhat problematic, often exaccerbated by Frank's penchant for renaming and recycling old tunes, but factor in the Zappa Family Trust's determination to churn out CD after CD without even this minimalist offering and one can begin to appreciate the burgeoning minefield that Frank Zappa's musical legacy has gradually become since his untimely death.

Such recently(ish) unearthed gems as 'Imaginary Diseases' and much of 'Carnegie Hall' are the undeniable proof that there is still worthy stuff waiting to be brought out into the spotlight, but tragically Gail Zappa seems determined to wring every last penny out of Frank's many loyal fans. Thus, there appears also to be vast opportunity for the constant rejigging of music that most of us will already have been listening to for several decades.

Personally I'd be prepared to risk the purchase of an element of more-of-the-same for another five or ten minutes of FZaTMoI in their musical prime, an ingenious rescoring of 'Black Napkins or 'Chunga's Revenge maybe,' but all too often The Zappa Family Trust have contrived to almost deny us even this.

Alas 'Understanding America' falls very much into the old-stuff-rejigged category. As a compilation it works well enough but, excepting a twenty minute FZ diatribe, there really isn't anything new here. Should Zappa's music be a relatively new discovery for you there are at least a couple of dozen far better alternatives to consider.

Well worth giving a wide berth to!
