Dad gave me a book to read about a Roman Catholic orphanage/boarding school in The Hague, where children were treated so brutally, I'm not sure how I'll be able to sleep tonight after reading it.

In news today was another children's home, that just apologized because kids were being mistreated in the 90s and 00s, so a lot more recent. It's still happening.

Watching a lot of Smurf cartoons. In English. I grew up with the Dutch ones, and it's surprising to find out the old Dutch dub is a lot funnier and more pleasant to listen to than the English ones.

I wonder if it's that way for all first language dubbed cartoons.They seem funnier in your first language as I imagine english doesn't transfer it's slang all that good.Hmm.I wonder if any studies have been done to see if I'm right or wrong?

Actually no. The Dutch had a golden age of voice actors in the 60s to 80s, with luminaries like Ger Smit, Frans van Dusschoten, Corrie van der Linden, Paul van Gorcum, Lex Goudsmit, Joan Remmelts, Jules Croiset etc etc. Of these, only Croiset is still active, sadly. The "new generation" is what has made perfectly wonderful cartoons, like the Dutch Fairly Odd Parents, a nightmare to listen to. The same goes for the "new Smurfs", there has been a massive vocal overhaul in the 90s or so: the newer Smurfs sound different, and horrible, compared to the old ones.
Whether it's better or worse than the original: that's individual, and for as far as Howl's Moving Castle is concerned, I can tell you you'd need to make a version with the Japanese Howl, the English Old Sophie and the French Calcifer.

Saw Skyfall the new James Bond movie last night

Usual 007 chasing, fighting, knifing, shooting, exploding fare. I loved it, the sound was massive, as the Embassy Theatre has just had the sound system beefed up in anticipation of the up coming Hobbit ver 2.0 world premier on the 28th.......which I won't be attending

The german version of classic Warner bros. cartoon character Daffy Duck once was dubbed with a voice that did lisp extremely. I grew up with this voice and was pretty shocked when i heard the original (non lisping) voice for the first time. That clearly wasn't my Daffy Duck. Meanwhile it got worse: Not only the more recent german dub doesn't lisp anymore but also the cartoons themselves gone 3d. Where is this world going to???

Any cartoon duck that has a lisp*,would be stereotypicaly called a gay duck.We're very homophobic in the USA about our ducks.Keeping them in a row seems to be very important to.


*Except for Daffy.I don't know if he has a lisp or if he just sprays everything he sez.Either way he still quacks me up.

I won at Killer Pool last night.
Turned up a little late for the work night out, didn't have a quid to put on the table to join in the game but ended up winning the game and winning the pot of money.
On my first shot I even potted 2 balls.
