I don't hear it. Is millionlaughs from Europe, as well?

This has been discussed elsewhere in the meantime. Seems to be a problem limited to the (or some) EU version.

Looks like HMV got most of the last wave of the releases finally, Up to "Mystery Disc". Still no sign of "Understanding America" or "Mothermania" in the shop or Amazon.ca. I wonder if Canada is not getting them?

A couple of weeks ago, I gave up waiting and ordered them both from Barfko.
---Interestingly, shipping/handling for the two CDs was the same as for 1.
---I had it sent the slow way...no extra charges when it arrived.

I'll probably end up doing the same thing. I'm holding off until all the batches are out in Canada though. $10 per title at HMV is just too cheap to pass up if I can get it. Once they're all out, I'll do another massive Barfko buy and get some of the other releases I'm missing.

There was a promo record for Läther in the planning in 1977 which had this lettering and the photo from JG Act. 1. Can be seen in the book GRAND ZAPPA. I don't know whether the front cover for the complete set would have been like that, too.

Wasn't there a shot from a radio station, where Frank was showing the original cover design?

I never liked the badly photoshopped cow design, either.

Anyone who bought Mothermania as a download is a complete tool. I think the CD sounds great, and I've had the vinyl for some years now.

What a nasty generalization. If they bought Mothermania PERIOD, they can't be a "complete tool" because they are experiencing Zappa's music.

I guess if they bought the FLAC they would be less of a tool? Ridiculous thing to post regardless.

I just knew I would not be the only person offended by that "tool" statement. Here I am a "complete tool", shit, I never realised that before. Educate me, oh wise one.

Just f'in around  Seriously though, $18/$22 is way too much for any 40 minute album as a download, and now you can get the actual CD for $12-$15. I know I'd feel burned if I had made that purchase.

Nothing to be upset about here. I have the record, now I have the CD. I hope more I-pud users buy ZFT's overpriced downloads, so it bankrolls physical CDs like Finer Moments.

So you're telling me it's legit to sell a download for more than a physical CD? What sense does that make? There's no paper/plastic/shipping involved. Go re-read Frank's idea about downloading vs. physical product from back in 1983.

you should read what you get when you "pay" for a download.
You don't actually OWN "jack squat."
It's NOT like a cd when you purchase it.
With a cd you OWN it and you can make a copy and give it away etc.

You do not own ANYTHING when you purchase a download.

Look into the fine print and the "legal jargon".
You'll be amazed.

A CD contains the same digital source as a download. The only difference is the medium is a plastic round disc or a hard drive/other device. You own only the right to listen to that recording and you certainly do not have any more rights to distribute it just because you got a CD.

Of course downloads should be much cheaper than a CD, there is no cost of a physical product and distribution. GZ's pricing on downloads is high because she is discriminative to the whole concept of downloads. CD's are dying. If FZ were still here things would be so much different................... :smoke:

I'm sure we've all thought that on occassion... But what things exactly? I'd be interested to hear thoughts on that.

You do not own the right to copy and give away what is on a CD.

CD fine print dept.: … Unauthorized performance/reproduction/sampling/distribution/filesharing/rental of any content herein/on is subject to all applicable laws (including cosmic). …

In other words: all you own is the physical CD, the packaging and the right to listen to the content in your private environment.

Well for starters we wouldn't have had to wait until 2012 for Frank to get his music onto itunes and other legal stores.
I reckon Frank would have loved the opportunity that the internet has brought and would have embraced it and not fought against it refusing to accept the inevitable.

Here in late 2012 we are all know the music industry is a dead industry. However, niche artists like FZ can survive. Of course the mind boggles at how Frank would have used the technology that came after the Synclavier for composition.
