A very cool thing about Amazon is their preorder price guarantee, so I didn't sweat it and just hit the button.

Indeed! I also preordered Läther (with the new cool cover pic) for 13£. Not bad for a 3 CD

Yeah...buy it now, before you notice it doesn't ship until January, and it's less expensive at Amazon!

Pre-ordered from CD Universe. $17.98 + $3.99 shipping. Best price. Even if Amazon's price drops, they sometimes still take up to 5 days to arrive coming from midwest to NY. CDU is usually 2 days from CT(no tax), and they ship new releases on Monday.

I don't like it. It looks like someone pulled the age-old prank on Frank and put lipstick on his binoculars.

Ha - nice! I prefer FZ when he's trying to be goofy/cynical as opposed to sexy but I do view it as an improvement over the cow. I'll take it.

As it goes, I've been pretty ambivalent with regards liking both the Finer Moments and new Lather covers but I'm now starting to find them pretty cool and endearing (perhaps it's just acceptance/getting used to with a bit of time and familiarity?). Ultimately, of course, it's the musical content that really matters; I've pre-ordered both- like others, Lather only as price for is (currently) so good- and am really curious to see whether anything different, apart from the cover, has been done with the latter. 8)

I like the Finer Moments cover, but now that it comes out that this is early Mothers material a more period appropriate cover would of been better.

Not a deal breaker of course!

Should be something like this:

Frank Zappa - Finer Moments
Side A:
1. Intro 1’20”
2. Sleazette 3’33”
3. Mozart Piano Sonata In Bb 6’21”
4. The Walking Zombie Music 3’23”
5. The Old Curiosity Shoppe 7’07”
Total: 21’44”

Side B:
1. You Never Know Who Your Friends Are 2’20”
2. Uncle Rhebus 17’45”
Total: 20’05”

Side C:
1. Music From The Big Squeeze 0’42”
2. Enigmas 1 Thru 5 8’15”
3. Pumped And Waxed 4’19”
4. There Is No Heaven From Where Slogans Go To Die 4’37”
5. Squeeze It, Squeeze It, Squeeze It 3’17”
Total: 21’10”

Side D:
1. The Subcutaneous Peril 19’41”
Total: 19’41”

New Läther cover simply look like an outtake from Joe's Garage photo session (which it probably is).
IMO not better nor worst than the 'cow' cover but way better than Finer Moments' cover.

Not only, not only, is Finer Moments being released on vinyl, but as digital download on the same day as the CDs, and a lot cheaper!

Check out the third item from my Amazon search:

Why RK thats the most hatefull post I've ever seen from you.

I call that art generic collage'.FZ dabbled in the college' form of art and tryed crossing over with the medium into music.Sorta like Dylan's electric folk. That might explain someone's anane attempt to recreate a generic Zappa art form and use it to sell music.Dumb,I know.....
But the hate RK? The cover just sez: This is where the best music is! 8)

Hey frogfog - check the sources, you'll find out there never was a JG photo session - and the new cover is simply another shot from the Lather session that also yielded the covers for JG 1, JG 2 & 3 and Baby Snakes 8)

There neither was a Läther session, I believe -- just another Norm Seeff photoshoot ca. early/mid-1977, nothing more, nothing less.

Thats a very sunny way of looking at it, but the thing is... my hate has grown! The colors look like they are chosen for a run-down kitchen. FZ's body just looks inhuman and South Park-ish. The hand and nose don't appear that way because the artist's vision decided that it should be so. Those are the shapes made by someone who is incapable of drawing hands and noses, as they look like the way I would draw them and I can't draw for shit.
If I wanted to be optimistic about the cover, I'd say that I could add up the kitchen-like colors with the spirals that could mimic heating coils on a stove and tie that to the imagery of BWS. Still a dreary cover, but that way it would make a bit of sense.

Somehow I think the OSD cover (which I found was nice) would have been great for this one (1969-era, and such..). Hopefully there'll be a nice Mystery-Disc-style booklet with an entire overkill of late-60s b&w photograpic reproductions, which could make for a great... oh, I repeat myself once again --
Worst case would be the front image rehashed on the CDs themselves, that sure as hell were enough to make me wanna vomit!
