Really Nic. What's your point?

You like guns. Fine.

Why don't you go and suck Charlton Heston's cock.

That will put a self-satisfied smile on your face.

Take it easy Quilt.
I don't really like guns, I do not own any.
My one and only point is: Making a "Gun Law" is a waste of time.

I won't be sucking any cock either. Its wierd how you got there buddy.

Serious question: why the fuck would I ask D.B. about "Jap Camps" (don't think thats what you should call them) I thought this was about Gun control.[/quote]
SERIOUS my Grandfather came home 4 stone in weight Dico boy will not handle a second 8)

And that worked well, didn't it. Most of the more notorious gangsters were able to live to high life thanks to prohibition and the phlosophy of "Give the people what they want".
Banning something just creates a new way for some individuals to make money.
Look how popular Isaac became, after he was banned!

The NRA's idea of gun control:

Use both hands...

You put more guns in the streets, more people will get shot...period. The laws on the books aren't working and/or being enforced properly, and there ae too many loopholes in place that allow undocumented gun sales to happen.

Start with an outright ban on military style assault weapons and ammunition. Give a 6 month grace period in which registered owners of assault style guns will be required to drop them off at designated sites, or face monetary and eventually criminal penalties for failure to do so. Eventually, most of them will be off the streets. I see no other practical solution.

The gun lobby propogandists will always put out every possible excuse out there to place blame on everything and everybody else but themselves. They'll blame video games, movies, tv shows, the media, music, books, religion mental illness, ect ect ect ect ect ect...

Schools will definitely need more security, but more security will cost a lot of money, which means tuitions and taxes will have to increase to cover the costs. Of course, the same people who don't care how many peoples kids get murdered because they want their toys, are the ones who will say that we need more security, but I'm not paying for it, thus forcing everybody to have to pay money to the government, so that they can keep their fucking toys.

One more time for the world, as someone here is fond of saying:
etc.
et cetera
Latin for "and so on."
pronounced et settera, no K sound.
If you're gonna use it, use it right.

As much as I hate guns of any kind, gun control is unrealistic. Even if the government enacted the bans that they are proposing, and actually got those particular types of weapons off the street, there are still going to be millions and millions of easily obtained firearms. There will never be the sort of overwhelming gun ban in this country to nullify things like this. Guns in schools? Not a guarantee of somebody shooting the "good guy". And I don't think I would want a gunfight occurring in a school that my child went to. If we shifted the focus to mental health on a massive scale, there will still be those who slip through the cracks. We can educate on what to look for to recognize those who need therapy and counseling, but that still won't be enough.

I think the real tragedy here is that there's nothing we can do. I don't think anybody wants to admit that. We want this wanton murder of 26 people in Newtown to spur us to take action, to make sure that good comes out of this. But this will happen again. The number of people plus the number of guns assure it will. I don't see any solutions.

That's pretty "right on" Cal

Nothing we can do really. I'm not just saying that either. Sandy hook is just 65 miles from where i live. Granted I do not have children. But I do not worry about getting shot up.
If it does happen, that's it, nothing I can do now (or that anyone can do) will affect that outcome.

Maybe I was a bit depressed there. Maybe they can do some things that will help some people, which would be good. I just don't think that with our gun culture we can stop it from happening.

Culture will change with law. Gun culture is in the minds of the Americans, not in actual culture.

I'd say a good 75 percent of the people where I live absolutely believe that it's their right to be able to buy any gun they want at any time, and there is no way in hell that any damn liberal is going to take the ones they have . This isn't going to change.

There will be some gradual change for the better. Gun laws will be addressed, mental health issues will be addressed, school safety will be addressed. I guarantee you policies and procedures are being discussed already in our schools, law enforcement, and mental health agencies. Things can and do change for the better when more right-minded young people come of age (and the old guard frankly, keep dying out) and influence our society and culture. Just think of the progress made in women's rights, civil rights, and gay rights. Not to mention the attitudinal shifts regarding tobacco, food, drugs, etc.

I think it's the other way around. Law will change with culture. See my above post.
