Literally, do you ever get shivers down your spine listening to Zappa?

I'll start the ball rolling: Ralph Humphrey's drum fill in Fifty Fifty, just after the line 'Ants in my pants'.

Some of the tracks on CP3 do that, as well as violin solos (weak spot), and "What would you do Daddy?" on AF.

Listening to a Zappa phone-in, and hearing a voice say "Hi! My name is Gary..."

That gives you shivers? It made me wanna puke. I remember getting the shivers the first few times I heard "Don't You Ever Wash That Thing?"

Not really. Just following Doug's lead. Puking would be a more accurate response.

I was trying to think of anything, but can't. I'm so familiar with what's been released it's just listening now.

There's a bit in Florentine Pogen.
Also the bit in Watermelon, when Frank starts playing. And I realise, for the nth time that he will never play another note. Shivers, and I well-up. can't help it. And I hope I always find it as affecting.

What will this evening, bring me this morning
That whistling bit before the line "Hiya Friends" from Penis dimension. Feel like I'm in some kind of surreal theatre on the back row at the top
Theme from burnt weeny sandwich
She painted up her face
You didn't try to call me
Magdalena leading into Dogbreath
Anything

Hell, I'm getting tingles just thinking about them

That part in the film "Baby Snakes" with Roy and the rubber girl, and not in a good way. *shivers*

Now what gives me shivers in a good way is "THE ORANGE COUNTY LUMBER TRUCK, PART 2" ("Ahead of Their Time" version)

"Beat the Reaper" followed by "Waffenspiel".
That Frank chose those two tunes with those titles to end his final album haunts me.

Thanks Bonny, but that would be like throwing gasoline on a fire, unfortunatly the lady is a few cd's short of a box set. 2001 armed with a butter knife Helen held her sister hostage for several hours over some imagined slight, and had to be hospitilised for a wee while once it was all over...She was never violent during our 13 years of marrage, it was more of a psychological kind of torture....Ahhh I remember the good year..

I've changed phone numbers several times, but someone in our shared network of friends keeps her updated, so I have become a habitual call screener.

PS great artwork on your 2012 accomplishments, the celtic knots caused a small amount of coffee to escape through my nose....thank you and merry christmas

Mate I feel your pain, only a couple years to freedom......The way I dealt with the button pushing was to regard everything said and done as the actions of a deranged bully, and I was able to ignore most of it, and as they say rise above it and provide no reaction what so ever, which basically starved her of anything to react to. Unlike your situation I was lucky in the respect that we did not have children which could be "used" to inflect pain.

I found out several years after the fact that the little woman had three "secret" abortions during our marriage. If I had known about these terminations at the time, she would probably be dead and I'd be in jail now. I'm glad neither of our resective parents lived to find out what had actually occured, as they were aching for grandchildren....So I guess all I can say is focus on the future, and without being flippant try to ignore the button pushing and keep your offspring onside, my door is always open etc.
Lifes to short, this shit will eat you alive if you let it.

The opening drum fill of Joe's Garage.
The guitar chords opening Thing Fish. (a very important FZ album INHO)
The screaming intro to the Zombie Woof solo on YCDTOSA 1.

Its not Zappa, but this Hendrix solo at 4:15 is definitely shiver-worthy:
