I agree with BBP on this one. Ignore lists are not for pussies. I've only stayed a regular here because of the availability of the ignore function. Back when Isaac was in his full stride, Trendmonger was simultaneously posting reams of his psychobabble and that Zombie asshole was here, I'd almost stopped coming here altogether.

Not to mention "The Central Scrutinizer". But he disappeared pretty quickly anyway

No I didn't disappear dickbreath, I've often came and went as is my prerogative to do so

I'll say one thing for Isaac and Trendmonger to a degree, they both created a bit of drama and excitement here and whilst you may not have agreed with them, or even found them a touch infuriating. They certainly managed to get topics raging and more people visiting the forum. Now there's an agenda that's been played out for a while where everyone pretends to agree with everyone else and you end up with seething banality and a forum that's teetering on the brink of total extinction so badly, that even the admin has fucked off leaving the place to become infested with spambots and bampots. The latter who quietly campaign for homogeny and for everyone to be nice.

Does homogeny sound like an ideal that Zappa would espouse, is it a cause he would himself champion?? Can you think of one instance in all the documented footage of Zappa where he took the safest option and agreed with what was popular in revelance to the topic or debate? Can you remember a time when Zappa kept schtum in order to not hurt the feelings of a person or group?

Yes, we are all different!
Image

One of Zappa's most appealing attributes was that he spoke his mind regardless of consequence. I used to believe that this ethic was upheld with vigour on this forum and the fact it used to be one of the only unmoderated forums online and worked perfectly as a result of it. Was proof that we are all adult enough to take the rough with the smooth and sort out our own differences, as very often happened.

I can't recall exactly what was the agitator for the shift in dynamics, however it certainly started around the time we changed to this forum and moderated format. It sucked the life and character right out of the place and whilst we can never go back to the old forum, there's still a chance to inject some life back into the place before it fizzles out completely. But will that ever happen

The irony is I can't remember a single post you've made or who you are. So obviously your less than hefty contribution to the forum allows you to pass judgement on others. There's quite a few people on here I find less agreeable than others, but I would never be glad that they'd left, or be glad they got banned, or even put them on ignore. The only thing worse than people talking about you, is not knowing what the people talking about you are saying

Now, now...put your weapons away. There was another poster, a few years ago, called "Central Scrutinizer" (2 words - not one word, like you) who pretty much only posted disparaging remarks about F.Z. He had a couple of other names, as well, and popped up here, again, for a short time, a few months ago.

There was also a new central scrutiniser here within the last month or so who is the one that I think is being referred to above. He was totally obnoxious and I think he's been deleted.

If you wanted to emulate Isaac or Trendmonger you could start a fight with SuicideChump anyway

He must be refering to this guy....
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=6311
....who recently made a reappearance. It appears all of this persons recent posts have been removed and account deleted.

I quoted him here.....
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=19639&p=488143#p488143
.....and now his post no longer exists.

There is still some form of admin. going on here but quietly.

Yes, I did mean this guy. I guess I should have clarified.

The first guy is The Central Scrutinizer who signed on here back in 2006 and is now inactive, his posts are still there.

The second guy is central scrutinizer who signed on in december 2010. He was deleted completely it seems. I quoted him at one point as well, but the user and the original post are gone completely.

viewtopic.php?p=488788#p488788

He's probably the same guy who came back for more.

I get what you're saying to a point. I hardly think that three tossers like Isaac, Trendmonger and Zombie are going to make the place by being here or break the place by not being here. I think one of the problems with this place is a combination of long timers being jaded, because it's all been said before and new timers being a bit intimidated by long timers. There are a couple of people here who are a bit hard on newbies.

You and I have had our differences and some times a while back that went on a bit long because I was still a bit green to internet forums and I cared too much about it but I wouldn't put you alongside those three above mentioned dick heads. [edit: what I was trying to say there awkwardly, was that I don't mind a bit of conflict, the fact that we had some disagreements and that I misunderstood your humour a couple of times didn't lead to me writing you off. This was in answer to your point about some people wanting to avoid conflict altogether]

Lately when I come here, I can take it or leave it and I agree that it's mostly boring, but I guess it all depends on what one hopes to get from an internet forum in the first place. What I enjoyed the most when I first came here was all the interesting info I got, but I've pretty much exhausted that and I don't need it any more. Now I just enjoy keeping in touch with some of the members I've come to respect or asking or answering the odd question. I'm not interested in hornets nests stirred up by total dickheads, I don't find that entertaining in the slightest. I stupidly got involved in that shit a while ago, but now I stay away from it.

In fact, there are two other forums that I much prefer that don't involve any of that hornets nest shit because the people running them don't put up with it. If you like the conflict, there are forums out there that specialise in it.

ahh it goes in cycles on all forums. I still think when things do click around here with a nice political discussion or other topics it's great. When things get shitty I don't post much.

Apropos, no price for the most boring post, and this applies for almost all his letters:

Billy Toys the Enigmatic Banned wrote:
There's a promise of a warm and beautiful spring day late this morning here on the coast of England where my friends Aragorn, Legolas and Gimly have just stranded after somehow crossing the channel. And look who has come to say hallo to us? Merlin and the Amazons from Epic Forest.
"..Merlin!"
"..Gandalf!"
DJee, "Hocus-pocus, why is you standing under that only rain cloud on the Isle? You know nuffin, do Ya?"
/V\, "That's right. How the ship on your shoulder has brought the lot of you save and dry over will be a riddle for generations to ponder upon. I would give me friend a slap on his back if the imp wasn't showing off its teeth. - So, since the welcome procedure has gone off well 'n' wet enough, I hadn't a shower in the last five minutes, let me inquire how it is with Shadowfax, your pygmy zimm-zala-bimm tricycle? I trust the comrades abracadabra seven of hearts, cubes and seas know all knicks & knacks of the bri'ish way of a fair sleight-of-hand?"
DJee, "We are all ready to wager everything and win juniper, the Jack-of-Plots. I wouldn't wonder if your mp-phree gadget later renders finger-snip war-shouts for orks and kestrels."
/V\, "Yeah, I see. Some plans from the ordinary for t'day, something one couldn't have possibly dreamed of, say?"
DJee, "Me has been phinking of carrying the crown jewels from Buckingham Place to Abbadeen to show Scotland Yard that the british people at least don't have to worry, because since it's kind of May that we might jump via the Shetland Islands, Ice- and Greenland over to hooooieeehhh China in one wooshy swoop, what you say now? I see you dumbfounded, i daresay it can be done drifting on the high atmosphericalllll jets. When we have relished in a really hearty brilliant breakfast that is."
/V\, "You spent too much time with'em Hobbits, meFriend. And what is it we gonna play in the porcelain shop, Domino, p'r'aps?"
DJee, "Preciselessly, Gimly nicks a pebble or slaps a slab-stone and complete the Chinese Wall is bound to crumble stunning-stylee. Might be even filmed from out the ISS."
/V\, "`kay cookie."
A, "O-oh, our amazing bright musician has just voiced the very word."
G, "By Thor, I can discern some bustles and clangings."
L, "No panic, it's just that the fair maids are sprinkling the icy cake."
/V\, "So what is we waiting for, the weather or what? Around the world in eighty and eight grand-piano notes."
Djee, "....raindrops keep falling on me hat.."
"Shut up."
"Pack it in."
"The weather forecasters got it almost correct."
"Do you know the diff'rences from Summer and Winter?
"Do tell us."
"In Summer is the rain a little warmer."
"You pay for the next grog."

have from a trusted well that he got his award, effectually every day here. Why smart forumers not treat their neighbour in kind measure? and instead?

tyehe, of how I got that "..haven't had a shower in the last five minutes" would be too much of a thing to tell. So in effect all the rest since we is all alone for how long. What i'd like to express here in a few powerful words is, be more at your ease and see wohappens. And oy, reprimand others when they ..ah you know.

The world is waiting there for you, can't you feel it anymore? --Robert Plant

So, now, let me speak to the clouds once more. Maybe will they tell where it is somewhat warmer.

And, while we're at it, let's not get carried away before there's an actual new Frankies thread ... starts new thread ...

Ah yes, and once again posting brilliance and all around greatness gets ignored.
