In 1972, Frank Zappa had to sit in a wheelchair for nine months, after a disturbed audience had turned him down from the stage during a concert 10 previous December. Zappa was as long as productive as ever, and exploited the situation to write more music. Some of what he wrote in this period was the opera Hunchentoot, today a forgotten chapter in Zappa's work.
Hunchentoot was a verbose project aimed at Broadway, and the contrast between Zappa sexfikserte, misanthropic, absurdkomiske ideas and a composite casting would have been a fascinating experience, William Burroughs had agreed to be the narrator, while himself Barbra Streisand and blues musician Taj Mahal was intended main roles as the evil whores drachma ("Queen of Cosmic Greed) and" her "miserable, hypernegroide, harmonikavirtuose love slave" Hunchentoot (the giant spider).
