I am 19 years old, and have been a Zappa fan since I started liking music (that's besides the point). I have listened to many Zappa albums, and one of my all time favs is Joe's Garage. Now, I have been analyzing the lyrics/music, and I really feel for Joe's Story. Watermelon in Easter Hay is genius, but for the life of me, I can't understand what A Little Green Rosetta is about. The lyrics don't really make sense to me, and it's driving me crazy especially cause it's the last song! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know if there's any great meaning. There may be, I haven't heard it. Maybe it's a happy ending - Joe is working in the UMRK and is happy twirling the knobs while the rest engage in a joyous goofy song. Dunno for sure. I know it was originally supposed to be on Lather but it was rerecorded.

I think of it as kind of a parody of a cheesy feel-good final song from a cheesy musical, delivering the false promise that if/since Joe gave up his guitar playing, he will become a happier person in an ordered, productive society…then it sorta just devolves into an absurdist studio verite celebration.

Correct-- if you believe the text of the Central Scrutinizers monologues to be the word-for-word truth.

However, if you find the Central Scrutinzer to be an unreliable narrator (not an uncommon dramtic device), then the opposite is true. Or something.

I think it's best to just stop listening after Watermelon In Easter Hay. The album is over after that.
