Hi JPD! Great PF buy. I went to McKay's a couple of days ago and bought this for about one one-hundredth less:
ImageImage
I could not believe how cheap this was, UK remaster & pressing, and OOP, too. Two CDs were so crystalized on the playing surface that my portable would not start them, but after a few applications of Brasso and rinsing/wiping dry, I am listening to The Madcap Laughs right now. This will keep me busy until I can find the Immersion set for $1.36 (ha ha).
Also got:

Imagereplacement for the one stuck in my car changer.

Walker J Walker-
Widespread Panic-Live in the Classic City. 'disc 3 missing'.
Sorry to hear about the missing 3rd disc. That is the only significant platter in that set. You will really miss out.

I love it when you describe stuff as 'big ticket items'. What. They cost more than about 25c? :)

In and amongst all the cd spam you get there are some real gems. I am slightly envious of this veritable treasure trove you have on your doorstep (McKays).

Happy New Year

A friend called late Saturday morning asking why I wasn't at the 10¢ sale at The Great Escape Charlotte, which I did not know about. I arrived after much had been picked through, but I found a few things. I almost left but I the first item this right off.

* I got this CD ten years ago when it was released as a free CD (when I bought any other CD) from a record club where I still had to pay for shipping. I was so disappointed I traded it in for $6 the next day. An empty case of the same double CD came with the Focus 3 CD.

Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of the War of the Worlds: The New Generation...So from the get go fans of the original iconic album will notice how Liam Neeson, (while the obvious choice for the modern narrator), does not have the depth of brevity in his voice that was so iconic with Richard Burton... secondly while the platform of the old album was Progressive Rock with Disco hooks, this new version is Progressive Rock with Trance hooks. It's hard not to compare it to the original album, but as it is explicitly aimed at a younger audience who may not be familiar with the original and thus do not have a sentimental attachment to it, on that level I feel it has triumphed. And while I hold the original album as sacred, this is a rare occasion where I feel that rather than tainting the reputation of the original, this remake/re-recording with it's new cast is a complimentary modernization of a classic progressive rock album. Instead of feeling like I have been cheated by a composer trying to cash in on his legacy, I now have another exciting and fresh version that adds to the overall experience. I give it 7/10.
