On a sadder note, Conrad Bain, star of Maude and Diff'rent Strokes has passed away at age 89. I remember him also as Meryl Streep's grandfather in the movie Postcards From The Edge.

Great charactor actor Conrad Bain.I never could stand Diff'rent Strokes, but I've seen him in bit parts in alot of movies. In most he looks very young and the credits is how I find out it was him.As he got older he became more recognisable as the wise dad/friend/neighbor or as a grandfatherly type.El Bummo,he will be missed.

Hmmm...I confused him with the other tv Conrad from the 1980s. The guy who played Mindy's father on Mork & Mindy.

Seriously, does one die of a mental condition? If I was bipolar and my heart crapped out, would my cause of death be terminal depression or high anxiety? I don't buy it. Dear Abby died of old age, pure and simple. And before someone else repeats his usual mantra: El bummo. She will be missed.

I believe there are other opportunistic illness’s that can kill you when you have Alzheimer's, like AIDS you don’t die of AIDS you die from a variety of other opportunistic illness’s, a cold even.

When you live to be 94, I think your cause of death is pretty much irrelevant. But Alzheimer's is a sad thing to have at any age.

I hope to God I die of something else: anything else...

When pop died awhile back from alzhiemers,(he was 87) I thought it was because it is a disease that in the latter stages stops the transmitters in your brain. The nuerons can't connect anymore to send the moter refexes that keep your heart pumpin' and your lungs breathing anymore orders to do so.So it all stops from an exellerated aging disease of the brain. His toe tag said coronary failure. That was in '03.It would now say Alzhiemers. We've come along way in the research and education of the public (that's you) and the practitioners of medicine too.I can compare it to my moms death from lung cancer at 69.I could say it wasn't the cancer,it was the heart attack, but I'd be lieing to myself. It was the cancer that caused the heart attack.Same kinda thing. It's a disease that speeds up our aging or natural death syndrome as it were.imho.

About Pauline Phillips, you can still write her sister.

So sorry to hear about your Dad, KK.

As for Abby, I believe she retired a few years back and her daughter took over giving advice, etc. Did'nt Abby's sister Ann pass away? I can't remember who used to do it, but one of them used the phrase "Wake up and smell the coffee" quite a bit and it always gave me a smile.

Dear Zappa friends, the Father of Mr_Green_Genes, my father, has passed away this morning after 18 years fighting prostate cancer. Remarkably similar to Mr Frank Zappa, from a physical standpoint (picture the cover of Jazz from Hell) - any Freudian reason for being a Zappa fan, myself? - since the discovery of his disease, he was able to see his children graduate, get married, have children of their own (except me), and also wrote two books and three piano compositions. He leaves wife, three children and three grandchildren. He will be thoroughly missed, but may he rest in peace.

Sorry to hear about your father.

Cancer is a bitch, but at least he got to see you and your brothers/sisters (?) grow up, if that's any comfort.
A friend of mine lost his dad to cancer in his twenties. The next few days you could not talk to him.
