Attended the work xmas party, which consisted of wine, women and song.....After the festivities one of the branch managers, while using a traffic road cone as a trumpet, fell over and dislocated a hip (a little too much wine). I was driving (and working the next day) so held off on the booze, which turned out to be a wise decision as I was stopped at a police check point on the way home.....A loooong night was had by all.

It's Christmas Eve, today.
The postal delivery person just dropped off a package.
It's the Christmas present I ordered from the States, for Sabby! (made it just under the wire!!)
I was greatly relieved, today! (whew!)

Got some postcards, delivered some postcards, and visited the second-hand shop. Bought a perfect pitch course.

Golden eagle sighting? How sensational! We see some hawks flying over the field behind the backyard, but the main bird watching is in the backyard, hummingbirds, scrub jays (used to think they were blue jays),orioles (in the spring), and lil phoebes. We had ham for Xmas, so Mom went out today and got ingredients for her Ham Bone Soup, which hopefully will be served manana. Right now, I'm re-watching Holiday Inn w/commentary. The song "Abraham", about Mr. Lincoln and his birthday is not "politically correct" today (everyone performing is in black face), but historically, this is what was known as entertainment back in '42. When the movie was redone as White Christmas, there was minstrel segment, but not in black face. by 1954, I guess people decided to move on from that and the last time I saw anything like that was a Spike Lee flick about doing a black face tv show with black people. He was "making a statement:, so it was okay, but now he won't see Django Unchained. Eh. *shrugs*

Travelled over 200 km to visit Weimar, Goethe's home town. Goethe's house was really fascinating; not enormous but with many smallish rooms, all connecting with each other. Each was crammed with works of art, all fairly minor but interesting, mainly copies of Greek and Roman statues and busts. It seemed pretty cluttered, but apparently they carted half of his collection away after his death. Even my kids (12 and 13) were fairly interested, though they baulked at the Goethe museum afterwards and had to be taken outside for refreshments.
Definitely worth a visit if you're ever in the area.

Dropped my car off at the gas station today. The car leaks antifreeze;doesn't warm up, the frontend pops, and now the brakes are messed up. Waiting for a call from the mechanic to find out how much this is all gonna cost.

People who live in Frankfurt call themselves Frankfurters. You just invited Caputh to be unfaithful to his wife.

Great! I have been through the process four times with my boys. One Division I, and three Division III. One hockey. one swimming, and two lacrosse. If you ever want to talk about the process, send me IM. Good luck. Its really a fun time.
