Steve Howe has some fine moments, like the "Eclipse" section of And You and I, the opening of The Ancient, and the sublime "Soon" section of The Gates of Delerium.

He's great all-around.

A fairly overlooked Steve Howe slide performance is in the Children of Light song colosing section Lifeline, from the Keys to Ascension 2 album... One of my favourites..

Also worthy of mention is David Gilmours on Shine on you crazy Dimanond Part VI

If you like slide, go see the Allman Brothers on the current tour. Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes are both phenomenal slide players. Saw them last night at the Beacon.

I think Pat Travers said once that in his opinion Duane was a mediocre slide player.

The bass line playing along that exciting slide solo is one of my all time favourites...

Well, if that's true, Pat Travers shot his credibility straight to hell.

Then there's Bob Brozman. He makes other guitarists scream for their mommies...

He's good. But he wont make Sonny Sharrock scream for his mommy. Sonny's got his own ideas about slide guitar.....

Found the quote....not sure where it's from.

Pat Travers:

"Forget Duane Allman He was so overrated it was unbelievable."

Do you really think so?

"Overrated. I think probably he influenced a lot of people in that style, but I've heard better slide players from the same area or even further south. I met a man from New Orleans when I was real young, and this guy was a **** of a lot better than Duane Allman. If you listen to that thing Duane did with Derek & The Dominoes on "Layla", he's so friggin' out of tune. Then again, that's personal taste."
