I can remember when that song came out. People at that time didn't talk about masturbation in public much and I can remember the receptionist at the place I was working at being very into the song at the time causing conversation to turn to women doing it for themselves quite often.

They played the US Festival in 1983, and they were a new band, or maybe one year old.

Freedom oh Freedom! Sometimes I feel like a motherless child! Freedom oh Freedom!

I'm gonna miss him. I saw him a few times at The Keystone in Bezerkeley, CA.. Small crowds, with a powerful legend playing. He was so into each song, a really cool powerful performer live. I'll miss that.

I really liked the Divinyls even before "I Touch Myself". The song "Boys In Town" from their debut was a real strong and moving track.

Brazilian Zoologist, Herpetologist AND famous Samba composer, Paulo Vanzolini

Image

A great loss to Brazilian biology AND music. Here you can hear one of his sambas played by a very, very competent guitar player and great clarinet player (also both dead):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrIJScZ_DLg

As a biology student I had the immense pleasure and opportunity to sit with him at a bar table and hear his stories about Brazilian music celebrities and Amazon field campaigns, a moment I treasure as much as ever now...

RIP fellow biologist and music lover...

Labour Party Maori affairs spokesman and Ikaroa-Rawhiti member of parliament Parekura Horomia has died aged 62

He will be missed, he was a rarity a popular politician on both sides of the house

Jerry Graham died yesterday. Today would have been his 79th birthday...
Image
I knew Jerry. He was a good guy. We both took our dogs to the dog park at 3 o' clock, so we saw each other just about every day.

He was best known for his TV work, but his first love was radio. He moved to San Francisco in 1976 to become General Manager of KSAN, after Tom Donahue died of a cocaine-induced heart attack. After KSAN was sold, Jerry went to work for KRON TV, which produced "Bay Area Back Roads."

In the 70s Jerry ran a station in Massachusetts. His son Jez had a friend named Ed Mann (yeah, that Ed Mann). Ed talked his way into doing a live performance on Jerry's station. Jerry told me he was impressed. When I told him Ed was famous as a sideman for Frank Zappa, Jerry said "Yeah, well nobody's perfect."

I'm gonna miss Jerry. He had lots of good stories. And his dog's name is Chicolini (from a Marx Brothers movie)...

I remember Jerry, that's a bummer man. I used to listen to him on KSAN before I moved up to the Sierras. He had a good sense of humor too. That's too bad, but also pretty good for living through all those coke, instead of payola daze. I'm glad I left when I did as coke was just becoming a big status thing in the '70's.

Depending on the cancer, I might prefer death.

Not sure but 2 years ago he was bitten by a spider and almost lost his arm, could have been a complication, hate to see people die and die young but slayer and that crap is not my bag, so no musical loss for me.
