"Didja Get Any Onya?", a great piece of organized mayhem.

"Zolar Czakl" vs. "We Can Shoot You"

Stucco Homes, one of my favorites.

Doo-wop with sped-up vocals:

"Cheap Thrills" vs. "No. No. No."

"Cheap Thrills"

"Shortly: Suite Exists of Holiday in Berlin" vs "Uncle Rhebus" (for those of you familiar with The Road Tapes and Finer Moments)

I would go with "Uncle Rhebus" because of the performance itself and because of sound quality issues too. I would really like to see a complete recording of that concert at The Ark released one of these days.

Live guitar solos originally used on Joe's Garage:

"Outside Now (Original Solo)" vs. "Occam's Razor"

Occam's Razor. Never really liked Outside Now much, in original form or the Act 3 form.

Punky's Whips (Baby Snakes version) VS. Titties n' Beer (any)

The version of "Punky's Whips" featured on "Läther" is simply amazing, the one on ZINY (the same with some guitar overdubs) is nice, but I hate the way that CD sounds. I don't like anything on "Baby Snakes", to be honest, so, even though it is a great composition, I have to choose "Titties N' Beer", the "Läther" version being the best.

Speaking of the devil, two songs from "Läther" not found elsewhere:

"Down In The Dew" vs. "For The Young Sophisticate" (studio version)

"Down in the Dew", simply because of the guitar sounds.

And speaking of weird guitars, hows about:

"The Ocean is the Ultimate Solution" VS. "Nine Types of Industrial Pollution"

A tough one, a really tough one!!!

I choose "The Ocean...", because of its variety of guitar sounds and that amazing upright bass solo.

And talking about bass solos...

"The Purple Lagoon" vs. "Apostrophe'"

"Apostrophe" because Jack Bruce's solo rocks like a sonofabitch, but is lyrical at the same time--you could imagine someone scatting that tune.

Paddle your own kazoo:

"Motherly Love" vs. "Jewish Princess"

Jewish Princess. Simply because of the lyrics "A grinder; a bumper, with a pre-moistened dumper."

The Dog Breath Variations (YS) vs The Dog Breath Variations (UM)

I love The Yellow Shark, but I prefer the Uncle Meat version. Lovely work on acoustic guitar by FZ and enchanting percussion by Tripp (with Ruth not-Underwood-yet, maybe).

Dog Breath, In The Year Of The Plague vs. Dog Breath (JABFLA version)

I clearly prefer Dog Breath In the Year of the Plague. Didn't like the permanent switch to F#-minor for the second half of JABFLA Dog Breath.

Bigband time! "Rollo" from ID or "Variant 1 Processional March" from Wazoo

I choose "Rollo". Imaginary Diseases is certainly one of the best post-mortem FZ releases. The same applies to Wazoo, but, though the very interesting piece it is, "Variant 1 Processional March" lacks the majesty of "Regyptian Strut", its later finished form.

Now, early Beefheart/FZ collaborations:

"Metal Man Has Won His Wings" vs. "Tiger Roach" (pretty similar to each other!)

Though similar I prefer Tiger Roach, it is slightly more interesting even if the music doesn't fit the vocals.

My mistake! Ian plays harpsichord in Aybe Sea, that's true.

I love "It Must Be A Camel", but "Little Umbrellas" has always been one of my favorites. Around 1:12-1:18 in the composition there's a tango flavour to it, and I, being from Buenos Aires, simply love it. I don't think FZ listened to tango (I mean, the real one from South America, not the crappy European version of the genre with that omnipresent pedestrian beat guys dressed as spaniards dance to in old films).

Now, two doo-wop pieces not written by Frank.

"Anything" vs "The Closer You Are"

Are you still searching for the douchebag Jerry Garcia?
