Spew dirt! Patience pays off. All misspellings preserved.

My deepest sincerity for this most articulate announcement. To climb the tallest mountain preperation is paramount. For anyone that has attempted a journey into performance of the compsoers work, the dilligence required to get it done up to the standards of the composer can easilly be misunderstood. This blog is a form of inside greater mountaineer guide.... All the best.

Well...........I have to say aside from trendy, Dz a great tech, and good copier, is not my favorite thing, yea initially it was exciting to think we would hear Franks music live again, but now i understand why Dz has very few lp's of his own composition. I saw Frank a couple times and while you know he had some electronics for the most part his playing was spontaneous. If you saw the you tube of DZ playing Hendrix that explains it, all electronic reproduction, no way he could take the hendrix strat plug it into jimis amp set up and come close to playing what Jimi could. I am a die hard FZ fan DZ not so much. Give me, Vic Juris, George benson, Al Dimeola, and if you ever saw John M play compared to Dz you would have a new appreciation. For some gritty blues jazz rock funk check out royal Southern Brotherhood.

Mr. Insider has another secret. Don't you love how he dangles these little nuggets before us, and yet gives away nothing? What a gasbag!

Musician Pen Pals is an interesting concept. Since many musicians spend a good part of their career touring there is only so much time to get studio projects done. Musicians live in so many different places, so making records this way gives people an opportunnity to collaborate on a project they may not have the time or financial resourses to get involved with.

Surely it is something very special when Frank Zappa could get the Tuvan Throat singers over his house and sample them for a synclavier project but live collaborations are not always feasible.

Frank Sinatra Duets may very well have been an early stab at Musical Pen Palmenship. I had heard that few to none of the guest vocalists on the duets project were ever in the studio with Sinatra. This was so much the buzz that back in the early 90s Duets was billed as the recording event of the decade. The studios could have been in different galaxies but it all worked out quite well.

So here we are some 20 years later and the concept has developed. I remember a few years back Dweezil had spoke to me of collaborating in this manner. In that case it was with a different musician. Without giving away who that musician was I have hopes that it all comes to fruition.

From Wikipedia: "[Duets] received mixed critical notices, with complaints stemming from Phil Ramone's style of production and a lack of personal collaboration, since the guest singers were not physically present with Sinatra but instead were singing along to his pre-recorded vocal parts." The album sold well but was bland and sterile.

But Sinatra was used to phoning it in by then: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/canno ... un-ii-1984

Many artists, especially in the ambient/electronic world, have been collaborating by sending files back and forth for years now. Once again Gary is seemingly unaware of any musical innovations outside of his hermetically sealed Zappa shrine.
