I've never really checked on that, I want to say albums like The Lost Episodes, EIHN, Imaginary Diseases, OSD, and FTMAMM have the most music never before heard on a Zappa album released before 1994. Am I forgetting any?

One Shot Deal consists mostly of guitar solos extracted from well-known songs, just like Trance-Fusion.

"Kaiser Rolls" showed up on an official release for the first time on OZ. The Freak Out 4-CD MOFO had a previously unknown song "Groupie Bang Bang." Lumpy Money had a real surprise in "How Did That Get In Here" even if parts of it were familiar themes like "Oh No."

Yeah, FM beats 'em all, most of the others had familiar material mixed with unknown or commercially unavailable stuff. I personally never heard any of the FM material before.

Yea I almost forgot about Finer Moments, I'll have to revisit that one soon. I don't have any of the box-sets like MOFO, LM, or GLS yet.

Dance Me This would probably trump all.

Most of Finer Moments is different edits and titles for material that was already released on Mystery Disc, Lost Episodes, YCDTOSA, and Carnegie Hall.

And a different edit/mix of side 2 of the bootleg/Beat The Boots The Ark:"Uncle Meat/King Kong", which is interesting since it has been urban legend it was not officially released because the master tapes of the show were stolen from FZ (unless they were returned to him in later years - yeah, right).

So, even though over three-quarters of the music has been previously released, the remixing and editing (i.e. the Carnegie Hall was in mono, the cut on FM is in simulated stereo) makes most of FM unique.

If "original material" means before unreleased material, you can count in most of posthumous releases - live recordings released on Road Tapes #1 or Hammersmith Odeon or Carnegie Hall or Philly '76, etc., were not released before. But if you mean new, unreleased compositions, nor Finer Moments, nor Trance-Fusion have too much of them.

I do mean original compositions/improvisations. So no alternate versions of City of Tiny Lights or Pound For A Brown, as awesome as those versions from Hammersmith and Philly 76 are.

For example, FZ:OZ has Kaiser Rolls, Road Tapes Venue #1 has Oh In The Sky. Imaginary Diseases has the title track, and some of the jammy tracks. One Shot Deal includes many improvs, and it's not just FZ on guitar. Trance-Fusion has mostly new material, if you don't consider the fact that most of the solos are from within known songs. Finer Moments is about 40% brand new material. That's what I'm talking about.

Speaking of Finer Moments, it may have previously released material, but it's never been available in the format it's in. Sort of like Lather, or if Chalk Pie got an official release.

Well, it combines "Uncle Meat/King Kong" with the "Baked Bean Boogie" and "Piano/Drum Duet" bits that were officially released on YCDTOSA 5, so it may be that a mix FZ did was stolen, but that he also had a copy of the tapes and only chose to use those bits.

Agreed in terms of original material but a little too much 'visual' stuff for my liking - 'one had to be there.....'

Give me Imaginary Diseases for its astonishing mix of robust material

Couple that with one of Frank's finest live albums Buffalo makes an old man very happy.

Yes, very happy
