He seemed to die in a hospital, so perhaps some health problem surfaced, esp. in the light of losing his wife a year ago. Any way, it's tragic, 67 years is still way too early to pass away.

Going to pull out some live 73/74 stuff to binge on today.
So sad.

Oh NOOOOOO!!! My favorite Zappa keyboardist without question. Ever since hearing Inca Roads from OSFA back in 76, I was sold to Zappa. Much of that initiation was due to Duke's keyboards. This is so sad news.

AHHHHHHHHH! CRAP! This hurts bad. I can't listen to Inca Roads without thinking of George Duke. What a fuckin' bummer man! Sweet man, I'll miss him. Way too young again, damn shame!

So sad to hear this news. I hope the ZFT provide a suitable tribute.
I think, out of all the people Zappa's played with, George Duke was my favourite. He brought so much to the table and fitted so perfectly with Frank's music and had a hugely successful career. That man could he funk! The world has lost a legend and one of the finest keyboard players ever

Just yesterday I was looking for some of his solo stuff and heard Dukey Stick, which is great. RIP.

(And it's good to know that Studebaker is still with us)

I've been listening to him to. Ran across this. George talkin' about writing and recording again for the album Dreamweaver*, after his wife Corine passed away last year.

*Must have been his last?

Wow! Look who's here! Sorry it has to be under so sad circumstances. Welcome back.

Thank you, George Duke, may you rest in peace, in a transcendent state of being back to where we all come from... Send my regards to your wife and Frankie. I guess God will be hearing Uncle Remus tonight.

Well said, Ringo. I think George's musical contributions outweighed, or at least certainly matched, those of any of Frank's band members over the years. Plus I've heard he was a hell of a nice guy. Thanks for the great music, George, we'll miss you.

Duke was the best.
This one is great if you have not heard it.

Check out the track Dawn from this cd. A little more prog than Dukey Stick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edLTWbJYoSs

Another killer...with less 70s soul- funk and more jazz....

This is the one with Zappa......

Zappa's solo at 2:00 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTefdj38ad4

My favorite (non- Zappa) Duke performance is on this pure and soulful tune from 1972 which Duke composed when he played with the great Cannonball Adderley.....(check the bass playing, too!!).

In my previous post I meant to point out that George Duke replaced Joe Zawinul in Cannonball Adderley's band when Zawinul left to start Weather Report. I think it is significant and worth mentioning.
