I'll get it at some point. The Roxy band was perfect. Why Zappa didn't keep them confuses me.

I haven't preordered this from BS yet. I want to see what else turns up. It seems to me if there's a rush to preorder from BS early on how does anyone who bought a $1000 thingamabob have a hope of doing anything with it?

I just don't like the fact that BS doesn't give out much information on their releases. Only "funny" little captions.

Six of the eight were still there a year later. Finances may have made it necessary to drop the second drum set and trombone. Plus some people may have gotten tired of working with FZ, and/or vice versa.

What's life without a little mystery? Or in this case, tons of mystery until the actual releases?

I think it sucks, but hey, they can do it because their audience will buy it regardless.

Bruce Fowler was quite possibly also fired after May 1974. Bruce actually hints at this on the "The Present Day Composer Refuses to Die" docu ("I got fired a couple of times").

I will probably buy this if the reviews are favourable. It would be cool to get it from a Roxy by Proxy deal type of distributor, though, so that's another reason why there's no preorder from these quarters.

Yeah I remember seeing this in the Pioneer of Future Music doc too, he said that.

I suppose same with the originally MOI he just got bored with using them. Though I personally would have tried keeping George, Napoleon and Ruth (especially Ruth) around forever.

Also, I hate mystery I like to research everything out before I buy it.

I think FZ wanted to keep Ruth but she had some personal problems and chose not to stay in the band. George was getting to be well known in his own right and wanted to go solo. Not sure about Napoleon but his vocal style was starting to get a bit old by the 1976 tour.

It's 1973 Roxy band Frank Zappa for fucks sake. If you need to wait for reviews to make a decision about buying this then you are a not a real fan and also a dumbbell.

Undiscerning Zappa fan is an oxymoron. This thread was intended for relevant discussion, which you suck at/hate. Quit if you can't stand it.

Now get back on topic.

Name some Zappa records you have not bought because of the reviews. I've said it before but always end up buying it. Roxy will be no exception.

Roxy By Proxy is in pre-order. There will be some good songs on it. I probably will buy it. It's the Roxy-era Frank Zappa band. The DVD might be released shortly.

Well, I'm through here, I don't know what else to say.

Sounds awfully familiar, somehow...

Having ad reviews and knowing ahead of time I probably would seldom listen to it, I still bought Francesco Zappa because of my completionism addiction. Roxy By Proxy on the other hand will get a lot of playing time from me.

I'll definitely buy it. Roxy's my most played FZ album by far.

Chester did a Q&A a couple of years ago I attended and said the the reason he left the band was the Frank had just bought a bunch of video and editing equipment so FZ wanted to stay home in his studio and learn how to use it. FZ cancelled all the upcoming gigs (I guess the rest of the band got notice) and Chester took the seat with Weather Report (then Phil Collins called and offered him big money to tour with Genesis).

Looking forward to it. I really want to hear Duprees Paradise, KK or a variance on something like Dummy Up. I do agree that FZ would have knot Ruth and he really got some money out of Apostrophe/OS so he could expand to the ZINY-size, but he then went small. '73 to '76 really saw a burst of creativity and a slew of changes.

I expect to be playing this, R&E and YCDTOSA vol 2 together to really compare this great live band in Nov/Dec '74
