I'd say yes. 2013 marks the 25th anniversary of the 88 tour, and it would be sweet if we got a new release, similar to the original 3 albums, filled with all unreleased material that didn't make it to BTHW, TBBYNHIYL, and MAJNH. Can anyone name songs that haven't made it to official releases yet? I know the birthday bundles have 1-2 88 band tracks on each one, but it's just not enough.

Or

Would you prefer an entire show? Maybe on one of the future Road Tapes series?

A new 88 band album, a 73 show with JLP and Sal Marquez, Roxy By Proxy, and Dance Me This all need to come out this year. If that happened, I'm sure every Zappa fanatic would scoop those up faster than you could name all the release titles.

Yes, let's here it for another mammoth, brass plated, articulated, skill-endowned, mature, with not so strong tolerance for trolling humour and personality kind of a combo!

One of My Top 5 Zappa Line Ups!

It would be nice to have an official release of a whole show from '88, without cuts or excerpts from different nights edited together. 1988, warts and all. It was a ensemble of excellent musicians, a pity Ray White was not there too. A pity it was Frank's last tour. A pity they ended in a sea of inner tension. Isn't it a pity?

I'd rather prefer collection of yet unreleased songs from '88 tour. There were some songs which were played only once a tour, and I'd prefer hearing them over hearing same songs againt and again.

It would be nice to have an official, high-quality, up-to-date master of The Beatles parody medley: Norwegian Jim/Louisiana Hooker with Herpes/Texas Motel...

There's been half a dozen 88 tracks on the Birthday Bundles (see here: http://www.idiotbastard.com/FZ88discography.htm), and I too would like more of the unreleased material rather than a complete concert. But I'll take whatever they come up with. There have been hints that we're due more from this tour, so let's keep 'em crossed it'll be soon.

Meantime, there's always this: http://www.idiotbastard.com/OnBroadway.htm

Well, I know we need these songs (including the ones released on the Birthday Bundles, maybe versions from other shows?)

Peaches en Regalia
More Trouble Every Day (Euro version)
Bamboozled By Love
America The Beautiful
My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama
What's New In Baltimore
I Ain't Got No Heart
Disco Boy
Teenage Wind
Easy Meat
Stick Together
Love Of My Life
Willie The Pimp
Montana
Truck Driver Divorce
Lucille Has Messed My Mind Up
Pound For A Brown (especially that 14 minute from from February, forgot the exact date)
Texas Motel Medley
Yo Cats
Chana In Da Bushwop
Sharleena
The Illinois Enema Bandit
Confinement Loaf
Uncle Remus
Watermelon In Easter Hay

That's a lot of songs. I might have even forgot a few.
Definitely enough for a double CD, with maybe some repeats, but different, versions. I wouldn't mind another version of Big Swifty, Heavy Duty Judy, King Kong, and Dupree's Paradise for the extended improv sections.

I will happily buy every release from the 88 band. I love "Band Band", it's one of my favourite Zappa records.

As an addendum to my earlier post, I would just die for a "frost-off-the-pumpkin high-quality/remastered" version (or versions) of "I am the Walrus"

The (decent quality) version on youtube from the '88 Barcelona show is simply immaculate and hilarious, especially with the clever transition from "Whipping Post" (which was preceded by "Watermelon in Easter Hay" (if any complete '88 show should see remaster/release, the 17 May Barcelona show should, if ya ask me!))

It was rumored in another thread that according to The Idiot Bastard sight, which is run by the gentleman 4 posts above this, that... And as if that weren’t enough, word on the street is that Madrid 88 is imminent…

found here - http://www.idiotbastard.com/news.htm

And yes. An '88 tour show is way overdue. Because the tour was professionally recorded, I don't know if it would be a Road Tapes series release, Vaulternative series or a stand alone non-series release.

Only time will tell, and it could be a while.

The 88 cleveland show on video is also great, audience tape (visual) is great, for once you get to see The Beatles medley as well as hearing it :-) i think you can still find this over at zappteers.

Great idea.

Unintended consequence could be that Ike gets re=appreciated once again, people go to see Project Object and either a friendship with the Zappa camp will happen or new hostilities and fresh lawsuits will spring forth.

Maybe it will be a Sharon Osbourne moment where someone else is brought in to re-record all of the Ike parts like the first couple of Ozzy album rereleases.

I would really like to see a DVD of the Madrid show; according to Zappa (and Keneally) it was professionally filmed and is much better than the Barcelona show. However, it seemed there were problems syncing the sound to video.

So I was really glad to read...

As long as we can all see Mike Keneally whip it out, then there will be balance in the universe. :smoke:

No complete shows warts and all, thank you. This approach is dishonorable to FZ's legacy.
As far as an edited montage of the golden nuggets? FZ already did that. I have to say
that I've not gotten much mileage out of most of the posthumous releases. Hammersmith
Odeon 1978 being the exception.

Because FZ liked accurate performances. Other than the Helsinki Concert, all of FZ's live albums were heavily edited.

Including the Helsinki Concert.

The least edited FZ live album is Just Another Band From L.A.

On what basis do you make the judgment "least edited". So Fillmore East is more edited than JABFLA? Does the term "edit" also include overdubs?
