I've listened to the entire Buffalo album today, and only now do I realize that it's the 33rd anniversary of that show, glancing at the cover during a slight return of Chunga's Revenge.

Big Swifty YCDTOSA v. 1 version- When FZ kicks in with his sola, it's a jaw dropper.

Listening to a bootleg of 9/21/78. Was talking to Ed Mann online not long ago, and asked him what the toughest piece he had to play was, and he came right out with Mo's Vacation, and told me when they played it. So I hunted down a copy. I have both the Palladium show and the Poughkeepsie show, and I think the Poughkeepsie one is the better sounding recording of the two. It's pretty wild!

Here's what he told me:

Mo and Herbs! Originally called nothing, then Blow Job for band dynamic reasons, then Mo's V, and then M&H V. Vinnie and Arthur and I were the first to ever play it in 1978, but we just sight read thru it 2X. Then out of nowhere Frank asks us to play it unannounced in the middle of a recorded show at the Palladium in NYC! It is not possible to read music under rock stage lighting, and that piece is very complex, so it was easy to be willing to play it in the show as a stunt because we all assumed it was going to be a disaster anyway. Amazingly somehow the performance was pretty accurate, I have no idea how that happened. Frank simultaneously created a version for solo clarinet, and David Ocker performed that several times on his own in 1979 or 80. Eventually Chad and I performed it in great form as it was originally intended. I do not understand the orchestral versions, they bear little or no resemblance to the original.

"Buffalo" - v.good, particularly the keyboard part of "Easy Meat" but too many guitar solos for me.
