Nice BS. I was lucky to see Buddy a couple of 3 times and each time it was shear delight! From the Fillmore to Lake Tahoe and Reno, each in different years and personnel. Man that cat could pick 'em + he put the rock drummers to shame. Even when I was kid, I'd stay up and watch him with my folks on Carson. Very humorous guy and always chewin' gum like crazy! Thanks for da memories bro! 8)

A colleague of mine studied playing drums on the conservatory and told me that he considers him the best drummer ever.

1st time: Harrah's Tahoe early 60's with my folks. Liked him and his drumming but I didn't "get" jazz or big band music at 11 or 12. (dinner show)

2nd time: I think it was early '70 at the Fillmore west though it could have been later. He played second to Ten Years After about the time Goin' Home was getting FM airplay from the release of the Woodstock and the film soundtrack. Great freakin' show!

3rd time: Harrah's Reno '75 or 6, by this time I really appreciated all his chops and man that dude was nothing but chops! He had an eleven piece orchestra with him and did a lot of originals with a lot of solos. The guy was great! Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich were the best drummers around back then. imho

Without any warm up Animal and Buddy have a drum off. A classic Muppet show fer sre. Thanks for posting that one Ursinator

Since Buddy Rich was brought up, ya gotta hear him yelling at his band about playing too many clams (bad notes).

But, if you've heard it before, did you know that Seinfeld used it on his show?

The last time you saw him, the guy I know was playing with him, also did you notice that the guy in the video that took the sax solo was Steve Marcus, the guy was a monster died to young, and BR and Krupa were good friends, i'll find an interview with Steve Marcus and post it he explains what it was like playing with BR,and the time Buddy criticized him so he brought in an amp and Wa Wa and jammed his ass off with him, the two were great friends.

Tonight's episode of "Criminal Minds" played a teeny slice of this Billie Holiday recording during the end credits.
This must have caused quite a reaction, back in 1939, when she started to perform it..
It reminded me of "Jesus Thinks You're a Jerk". (well, a small part of it, anyway)
