Plot summary: "This is a documentary of the making of a recording and performance of “Cheepnis" by Frank Zappa."

...While we wait for Roxy, another confusing treat?

It's pretty cool. Starts with the Cheepnis intro from the Roxy, then moves to the studio with Frank instructing the band. He gives tips to the background singers (a couple of girls) and they get back into the song. I could watch stuff like this for hours.

Those couple of girls are Debbie Wilson and Linda Sims, AKA The Ikettes.

Downloaded it - it's a bit misleading, as only the beginning is from Roxy, but the rest is priceless rehearsal footage with some backup vocals that didn't make the final mix / arrangement. Still, absolutely worth $2. Buy it!!

Absolutely fucking great. Priceless studio footage, with poetic justice in the way the camera lingers on the Ikettes who never really got due credit.

FZs was a master craftsman. One case in point is how FZ produced studio overdubs to live material. The Roxy & Elsewhere and Sheik Yerbouti albums are go to examples of the creative aspects of such. While Shiek Yerbouti always seemed a bit more pronounced, the Cheepnis movie brings forth some visual and auraul N'Lightenment of FZs process of adding studio overdubs to live material.

As I've only previewed this film once, a fine toothed comb will be applied at a later date. Good God, it's an amazing way to wake up to a new day! It's clear that this is the kind of thing I've been looking for since I first bought the Roxy & Elsewhere LP when it first was released. In the evolution of things to come, Roxy by Proxy, and but also, the movie. I for one am thrilled that this is Phase II. This being released before Roxy by Proxy is a most welcomed evolution....

Get ready for the movie!

Sounds like this is really cool, but I will not even click on an iTunes link. Hopefully bonus footage on the DVD next year.

I'm in Ireland, and I can't buy it in the Irish store, and then they wonder why people (who would normally be honest) seek things out illegally.

Not that I'm going to make an account with Apple for one purchase, but whats the running length on this?

I've held out hope that xbox music subscribers would get the same catalog as itunes once we recieved the primary catalog. (although even there any 10+ minute songs aren't available even to paid-subscribers, and are left off the cloud collection....)

Hate to miss out on birthday bundles and beat the boots because of some old-fashioned idea that itunes carries clout. Between spotify, lastFM, xbox music, nokia mix, google music, and amidst diminishing market share, going exclusive with itunes makes little sense.

it does make sense because none of the other services sell films or videos, if i am correct they only sell audio? this is not audio...

This thing is awesome! I will buy as many of these as are available to release.

Does anyone have any additional insight / info on the overdubbage of R&E? This makes it seem like maybe the entire performance is studio with the stage banter being live. Of course the final R&E mix is way different than this. Did they just play through the entire live set in-studio so they could blend in and out as needed to fix mistakes, or was it all kind of layered on top of each other or what?

Now I'm pumped for RBP (no I didn't preorder because I've fallen for that before) and the film. Hoping for lots of bonus footage like this. A+++

I haven't seen this video yet but I think at least the middle of "Cheepnis" on R&E with the sped-up drums and Napoleon vocals is entirely from the studio. Otherwise it would not have been possible to speed up the drums but still have the tempo match the rest of the song.

google play, xbox video, and amazon all have video stores for digital content. Amazon doesn't even require an Amazon account as you can make purchases as a guest. I believe even youtube supports pay content. Sorry, but limiting outlets for a bunch of 1 and 0's is a hard thing to defend.
