I, too, read the Barry Miles book. I thought he was being very critical about alot of stuff. A few times, it sounded as though Miles was not really a fan of FZ's. But, I also have two other books by Miles, on FZ, that were good.

I also have No Commercial Potential, it is good.
And, a few years back, my wife gave me an FZ comic book.

The Dangerous Kitchen by Kevin Courrier is a good one too.

I nearly finished that Ben Watson book which covers all his releases, it is OK, but there is nothin revealing there, and there are mistakes (like not crediting Sneaky Pete Kleinow on One Shot Deal)

Great link slime -

so I went through my bookshelf, and in addition to an almost complete set of Society Pages, I actually own and have read

Zappalog
Mother! Is The Story Of Frank Zappa
Viva Zappa
Zappa: A Biography
The Torchum Never Stops vol 1-4
Rock 'N' Roll Comics #32
Frank Zappa – A Visual Documentary
Hungry Freaks, Daddy
and Ben Watson's Complete Works of Frank Zappa

And Pam’s book
I'm With The Band

… and, of course, what’ official from Frank -
Frank Zappa Beat The Boots! Scrapbook
Them Or Us (The Book)
Frank Zappa Tour 88 Broadway The Hard Way
The Real Frank Zappa Book

Now I have a good link, have to buy some more - would like to read Necessity Is...

I've endured a love/hate w/ Watson's Poodle Play. Some brave theories, but seems a tad eager to justify his own interpretations/mishearings. For instance, Watson is obsessed w/ poodles in FZ's music and mishears "no poo-poo jokes" in "Enema Bandit" as "no poodle jokes." Minor, yes, but telling.

Just started The Words and Music of Frank Zappa by Kelly Fisher Lowe (Praeger books) and learning something in the first ten pages: the opening phrase of "On the Bus" is lifted from Toto's "Tow the Line." Hence the original title, "Toad-A-Line." Duh. The "Occam's Razor" version is even more pronounced, w/ FZ quoting it numerous times...

I enjoyed the read of The Real Frank Zappa Book more than anything, but learned a lot more from Electric Don Quixote.

The Negative Dialectics of Poodle Play by Ben Watson is the most comprehensive, articulate, in depth book i have quite likely ever read. It doesn't just scratch the surface.....it goes deep- far beyond balls deep. You can open up to any page and be drawn in with more information that you could ever imagine and concepts that tease your brain and quite 'frankly' open your mind to things you probably haven't ever thought of or even care to think of.

I love The Negative Dialectics Of Poodle Play! Poodle Play and The Real Frank Zappa Book are the only two books I bought myself. All my other Zappa books were gifts. Have you read any of the other Zappa books by Ben? Are they worth getting?

Look for my book "The Zappa Forum:ONE MORE TIME FOR THE WORLD - WHERE THE FUCK IS ROXY?" hitting magazine boutiques and out of the way kiosks in 2018.

Thanks, but that wasn't question. After reading Poodle Play, which honestly is a lot to digest. Have you read, or would you suggest any of Watson's other Zappa books?

Make sure you at least promote the damn thing, and give updates when necessary.

I'm sorry, it's been pushed back to 2020. No explanation necessary.

Then I'm canceling my preorder.

I ordered "real FZ book" from Amazon and can't wait for it to arrive. I've read the beginning of miles' book and find it interesting although I know the criticism.

The Real book is good but you don't really get a lot from it, it's just nice to hear from the maestro himself

The art of writing a biography is a tough one that I would never have the patience for. Sure Miles fucks up a few things, but I think it's the integrity of the critical moments that proves our hero and protagonist is uniquely human, inspiring hope in the rest of us Freaks to get the out there and feel free to do our own Bee-Bop Tango despite whatever criticism we encounter. I love autobiographies and memoirs, but any "facts" are always distorted by one's subjective opinion of themselves.

Arf, arf, arf...
