Thanks for posting this. I've already watched this twice and I think it's a decent interview. And it's interesting to note that FZ didn't consider his rock-oriented music as prog-rock...

I feel at first he was fairly dismissive to the interviewer and then he warmed up to her a bit. Still gave MTV so much shit. I wonder if it aired in its entirety, I doubt it? I love that little smirk he does.

Good interview.

I'm not always a big fan of FZ where he shows his open disdain towards the interviewer. He could get his point across and still not be such an asshole. I don't appreciate his hypocracies either as he is criticizing the fashion choices of ' 80's/MTV musicians to fit a certain mold while he did the same thing with the early Mothers instructing them to shop at second hand stores and dress like a freak to fit into that scene.

I give FZ the benefit of the doubt on interviews as he's talked to or been "prepped" enough to know who and what the interviewer is about. We only see the edited version. Plus that's always been his shtick since MOI like ya mentioned. Why fix it if it ain't broke? - I read recently that Nina Blackwood's biggest let down was an interview with Frank Zappa. I think her and some of those 1st MTV VJ's are pushing a book about that time and the big rock stars they "knew". I didn't much like her style either and by then FZ didn't need them as much as they thought. She probably asked him if he wanted to get high before/after...or sex and he turned her down. Haha!

He wasn't always well prepped, as in the 1985 nightmatch debate (at least the first part). He was mugged in that one, and did quite well to come out of it relatively unscathed.

Ya, what I mean is, he knew what kind of program and interview it was gonna be. Like on Crossfire, where he held his own while the other guy kept calling his music/lyrics trash. He held his own just fine on that one.

But the batteries dead,
So he asked to use the phone,
And she gave him some head.
And that's the end of the story!

The mega stars of today can never be ambushed by an interviewer. The mega stars people provide the list of questions to be asked by the interviewer, with the warning, any deviation from the list and you will never work in this town again boy.

I heard he got a blow job from Nina's mom during the interview.

I like to hear Frank talk so I like most of his interviews, especially when he is relaxed and having a good time. Some like this one where he obviously has no respect for the interviewer I could do without for the most part.

Over the years thanks to e bay I've amassed hours of FZ interviews from vinyl through to dvd and everything in between. Every so often I'll spend a couple of days listening to or watching these things, I find the gospel according to Frank very interesting and hugely entertaining. You can generally tell if FZ is/was in a good mood, or if he would rather be elsewhere. If your bored and have a huge data cap you tube is full of the stuff....but you already knew that.

I think he went in with the agenda to rubbish MTV, which he did when he got the chance.
I agree with him, especially in the context that nearly everything in the 80s was shit.

I watched it again. Really good interview. And yeah he opened up about modern music and stuff he likes. Which he doesn't always do. Dunno whether she just went on about it being so good to hear common sense because she was sucking up a bit. Need more like these.

Stephane Radoux with LPG'S - "Cosmik Debris"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUmGvsjlHs0

Stephane Radoux sings this Frank Zappa song with LPG'S and Dave Fricke at Ray's Stage in Puna,
on the Big Island of Hawaii on December 28, 2013.
This song was a request and is not part of the bands set list.

Cant find the right thread for this, but watching Ripping Yarns on BBC4 last night (tomkinsons school days), one of the kids was 'Zappa Major'.
I found this below on zappateers a minute ago too.
TT

"I was watching Michael Palin's Ripping Yarns, (Tomkinson's Schooldays). During the 40 mile forced hop, Tomkinson, (Palin), observes one of his classmates dying and refers to him as Zappa major.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=J0FmVy-oS ... re=related about 42 seconds in.

Useless I know, but hey Pythons may have been FZ fans."

I read in an old Eric Idle interview, where Eric said he was a (major) Zappa fan, and was turned on to Zappa by Terry Gilliam in the late 60's.....could have been in a Rollingstone...so it's gotta be true...
