I'm not sure they are using dry suites, that water temprature doesn't justify it... :smoke:

I thought KK said water temps of 42 degrees. That would call for dry suit. I sail a lot on beach cats and my wet suit is good most of the time, mostly needed for 60 ish water temps, and boots and gloves are a necessity at those temps but 42 degrees? dry suit, and they will use neoprene dry suits not the death baggies from hell.

Man Bravo you had me thinking I was nuts, because I remember surfing in winter in water in the 40's in a wet suite with hood, glove, and booties...so I looked it up some stuff I found:

From a wet suite/dry suite company - water F40+ - 6/4mm Charger with Removable Hood and HighTop Booties or Inverson Drysuit all with Booties.

Some diver commenting on using a wetsuite in cold water - Just to add my own experiences to the comments already made, before I switched to using a dry suit I would go diving in the spring when water temps were in the 38-43 F range in a 6.5mm two-piece wetsuit, 6.5mm hood & boots, and 5mm gloves. Individual dives would be around 45 minutes, with only fingers and toes getting cold enough to cause any significant level of discomfort. That doesn't mean that my body core wasn't getting chilled at all by the end of each dive, but I was in no danger of reaching life-threatening hypothermic levels.

And my personal Favorite - I've always been told to keep "The 100 Rule" in mind when swimming/surfing with a wetsuit.

Essentially, if the water temp (f) + ambient air temp (f) is > 100, it will be safe to swim/surf with a wetsuit with little risk of hypo. Using bonnet with booties, and gloves, one can swim in a bit colder water, but I wouldn't push the 100 Rule too far if you're alone or swimming more than 25-50yds from shore.

60f air temp + 55f water temp = 115 = Safe
40f air temp + 55f water temp = 95 = Not safe

Besides I think the good Kapt. over estimated the water temp, I believe its is closer to mid 50's according to current weather charts, still some guys like dry suites others prefer wet suites, any way you look at it you have to train to be active in cold water, I did and I put a lot of hours into preparing for large winter swells... :smoke:

Hey knock your self out, 6mm is pretty bulky, the biggest reason most guys i know make a choice is Price !! I use my wet suite 90% of the time but...... when i stretch the season and some of us are nuts and the water is 60 and below and Hobie sailing the wind is 20+ the dry suite goes on, couple hundred for a good wet , 1000 for a good dry, plus one deciding factor for me was when you get out of the water, wet suite, cold, dry suite, warm, check out what the guys wear at the Columbia river gorge . That is where I first tried a dry. That would be a neoprene with water proof zippers.

Big storm a comin' to Jersey. I hope they don't postpone the game.

"We are embracing the weather," commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday, according to Yahoo. "Football is played in the elements." As of now, the temperature on Super Bowl Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J., is supposed to be a high of 40 degrees and there’s currently a 30-percent change of rain or snow. The kickoff is slated for 6:25 p.m. ET.

If anything, they should just start the game at 3:25 p.m. ET.

I suppose it's your mutated member that you're referring to, fagbait.

Now people are gonna read yer quote and think I said something really stupid. Which I didn't. At least not in this case.
The picture was just a joke. Just like that pathetic joke of a moment in Steve Vai's career.

(Steve Vai is obviously talented. Particularly as a transcriber. I can't claim he was overpaid. David Lee Roth on the other hand..... I can't honestly state that he was overpaid either. His fans were happy to pay what they paid. Supply and demand. But I suspect the quality of the music was not the reason people went to see those shows)

What a boring blowout. Glad for Seattle and sad for Manning. He (Peyton Manning) will be back next year. His boss lost a couple before winning two in a row and then retiring to the front office.
