Or, as they call it in Sweden, "How you get to the liquor store in the Winter."

If you mean "you" as in "you, BBP", you're wrong. I couldn't skate to save my life. But it's been a very useful skill for Dutchmen throughout the ages.

I have to root for Sweden since my company is based there...lol...

I am sure any sports fans knows how you end up adopting Teams for the simplest of reasons, college football for me is a great example,
I was brought up Catholic so Notre Dame is my Team, I was brought up in Souther California so I also like USC and UCLA, my family is from Ohio so I watch Ohio State, my Mom was born in Alabama so there in the mixmy wifes Family is fro Oklahoma so the Sooners are on my list, my wifes aunt is in Phoenix, Arizona so the Sun Devils get some love, I moved to Northern California so I adopted Stanford and Cal Berkley...The big problem is a lot of these teams play each other, the USC Notre Dame rivalry is one of the oldest in football Notre Dame and Alabama have the most National Championships... :smoke:

I read in the newspaper that the reason the Dutch are kicking ass is the winner of the most medels gets a date with Bonny...

:D Thanks Plook! I had a rejection for a job application in the mail today and this makes me feel better!

(The reason the Dutch are kicking ass is the US have a poorly designed speed skating outfit.)

Apparently the US team doesn't know how to wax a snowboard either, the French seem to have some secret wax formula... :smoke:

Am watching Ashley Wagner skating to Saint-Saëns's Samson & Delilah - and hearing the commentator call it "Romeo & Juliet" by Prokovief. My brain just died.

That was the music she had been using for her long program (Romeo And Juliet) but changed it back to her older routine of Samson And Delilah.

So he had incorrect information. I assumed that. But Saint-Saëns is my favourite classical composer and it still stings.

I must say I watched most of women's cross country skiing...what a race! Sweden was far behind in third, but made that gutsy move to get around the German woman (who by accounts, was more a short sprint skier, she must have been beyond tired.) near the end and then pulled past the woman who was in first (can't recall the country now) and just made it in front of the two at the finish line! I know this is old news, but it sure was exciting! Oh, was the other woman from Finland? Thought of it as I wrote "finish". Har de har. Read online tonight that Ashley Wagner was slamming the judges for their scoring...oh, wah! She finished in sixth and skated rather well, as did Gracie Gold. Poor Gracie had to follow the eventual winner, who performed wonderfully, but she was still excellent, and her outfit was rather nice, even though I don't usually get into the whole fashion thing. The U.S. seems to be ahead in medals, but that's no biggie, I like watching them do well and an underdog surprise everyone by winning.

When they had on team skating (a silly idea to me), one of the female skaters---she may have been from the US or Canada get all weepy that she got a silver medal. Really? What a little drama queen. A week or so later, some snowboarder or freestyle skier got down to the end of the hill and knew he only would get silver and smiled and shrugged "oh well"....now that's the way to accept it. One last thing, the big male Russian skating star (can't believe I don't remember any of their names) had done so well his first night, then came out after a tumble during practice in obvious pain and went to the judges to say he couldn't do it. Very gracious and sorry he couldn't compete, very professional. When he was speaking to the judges, for some reason, it reminded me of another skater. Remember all the fuss with Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding? So Tonya's on the ice and makes a mistake...and goes up to the judges to show her skates. Wah! Something got on my skates--it's not fair, boo hoo. Payback's a bitch, babe. Anyway, even though this man was acting nothing like Harding, it took me back to that time. So, tonight during the broadcast, they do a "look back" on the whole whacking Kerrigan's knee thing...though mercifully, w/o her crying "Why? Why?". We know it hurts, but geez. Anyhoo, Harding still maintains she didn't know what was going to happen and Kerrigan wanted to believe her back then, but later thought she must have been behind the whole thing. Hey, ya think?

Geez, I don't come on the board for awhile and then you can't shut me up! The end.

There was the Dutch case of our first full podium, when the guy who ended in 2nd place initially heard he'd won, but in photo finish he got silver by a few thousanths of a second. That was beyond shitty for him.
