I must say I watched most of women's cross country skiing...what a race! Sweden was far behind in third, but made that gutsy move to get around the German woman (who by accounts, was more a short sprint skier, she must have been beyond tired.) near the end and then pulled past the woman who was in first (can't recall the country now) and just made it in front of the two at the finish line! I know this is old news, but it sure was exciting! Oh, was the other woman from Finland? Thought of it as I wrote "finish". Har de har.
yeah, that was one amazing race! I had given up on sweden's chance on taking the gold on that one when the fourth leg started. she was 24 seconds behind!

and, yes, one of the women she passed was from finland. the bronze went to germany.

I have the comforting feeling that even without watching any of the Winter Olympics on TV, visiting a sports site, listening to the radio or reading the newspaper that the UK does not have one single gold medal...
Except possibly in ice skating, which they were quite good at a few years ago, or so I am led to believe.

What the hell is "Skeleton"?
It sounds suspiciously like some new sport, thought up by the British that nobody else has ever heard of, in a desperate attempt to prove my statement above to be wrong! :smurf:

So, basically something for Eddie the Eagle types; a sort of "tallyho", "once more unto the breach", "tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow" type of thing. No wonder we're good at it.

final medal count for sweden: 2 gold • 7 silver • 6 bronze

not too bad. we've done better, but we've also done worse.

we lost the final hockey game today against canada. they beat us 3-0. first period was pretty even. but in the second period, canada took over and controlled the game from then on. they played great hockey. sweden wasn't bad, but were not able to crack the canadian forechecking and defense (which was absolutely perfect today). canada are worthy of their gold medals.

ah well, silver medals in the hockey olympics is not bad. 8)

overall, I think the sochi olympics was pretty exciting.

The gold medal game is the only hockey game I watched at 8:00am, my time. Being Canadian, I couldn't be more proud of our men's and women's hockey and curling teams. Pretty crappy that Nicklas Backstrom got pulled from the game, eh? That was a load of crap.

the game started at 7:00 am my time. I don't remember when I was up that early on a sunday. congrats on the gold. 8)

oh yeah, that nicklas backstrom was pulled from the game was a big load of crap. they were even threatening not to give him his silver medal! I don't know how that went, but that would have been just ridiculous!
