Fellow forum member and long time friend ( 40+ yrs ) Edyrukidng ( Mark ) entered hospice this past Tuesday from complications of pancreatic cancer. I saw him yesterday and in a drug induced coma that he will not recover from.

My longtime partner in crime , radio sidekick ( The Marko / Pedro Show Featuring the Music Of Frank Zappa ) , traveling companion , band mate ( he was a great bass player ) , one time room mate, keeper of probably Frank's last autograph ( the hand in the above pic ) and all around great guy , is on his way to the next plane in life. :D

I thought some here would like to know.

RIP Mark / Edy

Bummer. Edy is quite a guy. I remember when I first read about the handshake - great story.

Very sad to hear this, even though I only know him from the forum.

Man, that sucks,,,

But it's good to hear that he's in hospice. They'll treat him right, and let him die with dignity.

Thanks for letting us know, pedro. :)

He was always a decent guy on the forum and I enjoyed his contributions here. So sorry and sad to hear about this news. I send my regards to his family and those close to him.

This truly sucks. To my knowledge, compared to any cancer, pancreatic cancer kills you the fastest.

I always dug his humurous tales of Cincinnati life and his FZ stories.

Though, since he's still alive (?), instead of saying RIP, I'll say I wish you well, edyrukiding! :)

You are correct. Didn't mean to use the past tense, but pedro's original post seemed pretty definitive. I do wish him all the best for a possible recovery.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I stopped by and saw Edy/Mark yesterday and told him of all your comments. I doubt very much is he was even aware that I was there. The nurses tending to him are telling me to prepare for tonight since it has been almost a week with no food and his body is slowly shutting down.

Disco , Edy was at the VA hospital in Jan 2013 and was told he had an ulcer. It wasn't until last May that the cancer was confirmed. All the doctors recommended chemo which Edy was against. I kind of think his refusal prolonged his life. I talked with him on the phone just last Sunday. He was in great spirits and was taking about a new business venture with his new poster sized printer. Even though he knew he was dying , he didn't stop living for a second. From what I understand , last Tuesday morning he had another friend drive him to Hospice and he told the nurses " Just put me under and let me go ". I guess the 5 morphs and 2 Oxy's that he took on a daily basis just wern't getting the job done anymore.

I think the best thing I can say about Mark/Edy is that he did it his way all his life. He made it to the age of 60 this past January and I kind of think that was his last goal in life.

He did it his way.

Once again , thank all of you for the kind comments. Mark was always proud of the friendships he made here and hopefully soon he will be shaking Frank's hand for real !

Maybe admin should create a floating sub forum for RIPs for forum members only, where we have to apply to start a thread, to avoid silly threads. There's a floating post for Stu already, and if we added one for Edy, and so on, the Legends forum would end up top heavy, which is potentially sadly the case already in fact, given FZ was born in 1940 and many of his fans are now ageing.

So very sad to hear, but I'm glad he's in a hospice as well, they really know how to take care of not just the patient, but family and friends, also. He was such a funny guy and I enjoyed his posts.....maybe he'll see Frank on the flip side. Condolences to you and his family.

Thank you Dove.

Mark / Edy passed away Monday night around 10:45. It's been a rough week for everyone here.

I'm sure Mark is out there somewhere looking for Frank. I'd love to a fly in the cloud listening to that conversation.

I'll go outside, smoke a ciggie, have a glass of wine and toast him.
He was a lovely guy.
Thanks for the posts, Pedro and my commiserations for losing a very good friend.

Well, now it's appropriate to say, RIP, Mark.
